Volunteer Update: Paradise by Eunice Florip
(21 May 04) Did you read or see any tourist ads about Jamaica this winter?  Must be the perfect place to be, right?  The Lutheran Ministry work there must be going perfect, too. Right? No, I don't think so, but isn't it true that all the world often is looking for someplace that looks and feels like Paradise?

The disciples even had that urge.  In the ascension story we hear them say to Jesus, "Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?" (Acts 1: 6)  Jesus wisely said, "It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by His own authority." (Acts: 1:7)

And then comes the promise: "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you." (Acts 1:8)

One of my favorite songs here is "There is a Redeemer, Jesus, God's own Son".  The chorus says: "Thank You, O my Father, for giving us Your Son, and leaving your Spirit till the work on earth is done".  He has left that Spirit here with us, and we know that His work on earth is NOT done yet.  That's why all of us need to ask each day, "Lord, what would you like me to do today to help "your kingdom come"?

Put into this setting, we know that Jamaica is a good place to be, and that the work of the Ministry is being led daily by God's plan. So we continue to reach our with the Word and invite people to come and a part of that wonderful kingdom that some day WILL be perfect.

The Lord has led me to accept the joy of another year in Jamaica.  Working with the Lesemanns has been a blessing in my life.  Now, we will also have the O'Neals here and they have asked about help in homeschooling their children, so I will again put on my "teacher's hat".

Thank you all for your continued prayers and support.  The Lord is good and continues to bless us.  May He bless all of you as you reach out in love to those who are lost that they may be brought into the kingdom, too!

Recently the young mother, Jewel Brown, that I have been working with in confirmation was baptized.  She is excited about this step in her spiritual growth.  We are nearing completion of the confirmation class, too. She asked me to do special things with her the week of her baptism.  She helped out at the office, came to midweek Bible class, and went with me to the Oaklands
