Worship and Music Committee Annual Report
Worship and Music Committee
2002 Annual Report

Worship and Music Committee members are Phyllis Addington, Hal & Nancy Johnson, Mina Mittelstaedt, and Buddi Williams. (Theresa Kappus occasionally attends, too.)

This group meets monthly to talk about the worship life of the congregation, to establish a schedule for musicians, review worship liturgies and keep the pews supplied with sharp pencils and forms for communion and offering.

There are lots of resources available for worship and lots of music to use. We have a lot of choir music to explore that has CD accompaniment and so the choir is going to sing more often in 2003, at least once a month on the second Sunday of the month. We'll also be introducing a new liturgy gradually over the year as an additional worship resource to our hymnals. It is called "Santo" and was used at the Synod Assembly last June. The choir will help introduce it over the next few months. It is not intended to be a replacement, just another option for the occasional 5th Sunday.

We have continued to work on making the bulletins easier to use. We'll be putting together a funeral liturgy booklet for people to use who end up in the basement. Most people are probably aware that the majority of our liturgy comes from the Bible, but for those who don't or don't know where in the Bible it comes from, we've asked Pastor to do a service sometime where the liturgy pieces are read straight from the Bible.

We'll also be asking that our readers each Sunday read directly from the lectern Bible and not the insert.

There are a couple things we'd like to do to strengthen relationships in the congregation. First, we know that many of the confirmation students and their families worship at the Wednesday night service but we miss them on Sundays. So we'll be looking for more chances to involve them in Sunday morning worship. We also will try to involve the children at the Child Center in worship by having them sing for church from time to time. Pastor is helping them prepare a song now to sing in church in a couple weeks.

We are excited about the possibilities in worship this next year and hope that you will join us often.
