Have any questions or concerns? Call (804)722-0321
This year marks the 27th Anniversary of the DCU's Annual Walk Against Hunger. Over $250,000 has been raised by participating churches and other organization during that period. Funds generated by the walk are distributed to the needy and unfortunate citizens and families in Petersburg and surrounding areas, via the following:

The Salvation Army Clothes Closet
The FAN Program (Food Assistance for the Needy)
The Clothes Closet (Clothes for the Needy)
The Prescription and Drug Distribution Program (for persons with medical needs)
CARES ( Crisis Assistance Response Emergency Shelter)
The Salvation Army Summer Camp
Other support and assistance to charities and the needy as specified by DCU

Please Note: Although the primary sponsor of the Walk is Downtown Churches United, the monies raised do not accrue to the financial benefits of churches but are distributed as indicated above.

Essential Information and Guidance
-Each organization should designate a "walk coordinator" who will be responsible for distributing walk sheets to walkers, organizing walkers at the starting point (Old Street at the Old Farmer's Market), collection of monies and submitting to Avonne Scott.

-The total walk is ten Kilometers (six miles)

-No children under twelve years of age should walk unless accompanied by a parent or guardian.

-Balloons will be issued to walkers. Soda, candy, & Water will be strategically located along the route. Free coffee and doughnuts will be provided prior to Walk Against Hunger.

-Coordinators should report to the Old Farmers Market by 9:15 am; walkers (members of organizations) should report at 9:45 am. The walk will start at EXACTLY 10:00 am.

-Walkers must present their walk sheets at each check point for certification. (there are ten checkpoints)

-Coordinators, inform your walkers that monies can be collected from sponsors prior to and after the walk. Their stamped and signed walk sheets will confirm the number of kilometers (miles) walked. Individual Walkers (Not associated with any organization) should also report at 9:45 am to resister.

-Re-scheduling is almost impossible. Therefore, we WILL walk unless there is a hurricane or tornado.
