Services of Downtown Churches United
Christian Unity Services
The Christian Unity Service is held in January of each year. Member churches will extend the invitation to host the service and designate a contact person to work with the Chairperson in planning the program and preparing the advertisement and printing program. The committee shall present the printed program to the Executive Board at its December meeting. An offering is taken and placed in the treasury. All incurred expenses are paid upon receiving receipts and voucher.
Easter Sunrise Service
The Easter Sunrise Service is held in Poplar Lawn Park on Easter Sunday morning at AM. The Committee secures a minister, choir and necessary supplies (a few chairs, speaker system, programs, advertisements, etc.) Attendees are asked to bring their lawn chairs. The committee shall present its plans and a printed program and advertisement to the Executive Board at least one month before date of the service. An offering is taken and placed in the treasury. All expenses are paid upon receiving receipts and voucher.
Vesper Service
Vesper Services are held at the old Blandford Church located in the Blandford Cemetery. These services are sponsored jointly by the Petersburg Department of Tourism and Downtown Churches United. They are held each Sunday afternoon from the last Sunday in May through the first Sunday in September. The time is 5:00 PM. Various member churches agree to provide the services. The committee schedules participating churches and provides means of advertisement. All plans are to be presented to the Executive Board meeting at its April meeting.
