Hoo Ha  Really, Why Anyone Would Read This is Beyond Me  Photo Album  Oh the Places I Go...  I'm Picking out a Thermos for You..
Right on...
Hey! What's Happening? Thanks for checking out my web crib. So far, I've only updated it a couple times, but I am going to try to be a more diligent hostess. Mostly this is just a bunch of random personal information that is included because I guess I'm self-involved and have too much free time.
*Speaking of too much free time, here are some suggestions for random things to do, just for the fun of it. For example, although normally shy, sometimes I get bored and strike up conversations with strangers just out of curiosity. I'm sure you've met people like me who seem to talk to you for no reason, right? Many times its on an elevator or standing at a stop light or maybe just standing next to someone trying to pick out cereal. Try it, it gives them something to tell their families "It was so weird, this chick at the grocery store just started telling me about all the different ways she's found to open coconuts... I wasn't even buying coconuts".

*Try this... Make a list of 1000 things you'd like to do during the rest of your life- it can be anything from being president of Texaco oil or going to a petting zoo to calling your grandmother to say hi or maybe even getting a pedicure. Trust me though, its not as easy as it sounds. You can check out my list-in-progress on the next page.

*Or this: If you can make cookies, do so and give them to strangers. E.g. People that live in your apartment complex, construction workers you pass on the way to work, the guy that sells you your newspaper everyday. Mmmm. Cookies. Good. There was a cashier at the drugstore where I was purchasing some sugar because I ran out half-way through making a batch of cookies. She asked if I was making Kool-Aid to which I replied, "No, peanut butter cookies". She then smiled and told me to bring any extras by later. When I was done with the cookies, I did have extras and I took them by. She was shocked! She came around the counter and gave me a big hug and a happy smile and a warm "God Bless you". It was fun to see a complete stranger be so happy at such a simple thing as cookies!

*Okay, one more, if you insist: Call a friend's house where you know you'll get an answering machine and sing them a little song. My friend Lis does this on her long commute home from work every day (and yes a different song every day). In fact, the other day, I came home and started dinner to the entire hokey-pokey on speakerphone. It was funny and you can't help but sing along. The best part is you don't have to be able to sing well. Let me know how it works out!
Here are some suggestions: I Feel Pretty, She'll be Coming Round the Mountain, My Bologna has a First Name, Roxanne, maybe even the Brady Bunch theme or just make up a song about what a cool person they are. Anything is fine- trust me.

Super! Time to go back to work...
Well, I finally got a job. I had been freaking out since moving here because my assumption that getting work in the "big city" was not panning out. The job I thought I was going to work ended up being just a tad too violent for my taste.

The one I have now, however, is cushy by comparison. Probably only temporary, but hey it contributes to paying the bills. If you're a tourist in this fair city you will probably eventually get around to seeing me.

UPDATE: 8/19/04 So far so good on the jobby job. The people there are a little uptight, but they sure can cook! We had a carry-in over the weekend and it was awesome. You just can't beat good food. (I thought I had something more interesting to write, otherwise I certainly wouldnt have bothered to write an update for that... hmmm? What was I going to mention? Dont you hate that?)

UPDATE: 9/07/04 I'm very excited because one of the perks of my job is that I can go to any of the museums for free. Children's museum, Art museum, NCAA and even the zoo. But better than that- I can get discounted tickets to all the cultural events around town. This is very cool since I have just moved here from a small town and I would love to go to the symphony or the the ballet just to see what its like. Also, at $45 a ticket, a lot of that stuff is a bit out of my current price range. So yeah, its very cool.

Update 01/20/05:
There is a new job opening in another department and my supervisor has suggested I keep an eye on it. I dont know too much about the position, but from what I do know, I think I'd like it. We will see how things work out. Mostly, I'm excited that she is looking out for me, many supervisors would not do that. Very cool. I also applied for the Crimewatch job again, but I have not heard anything yet. Hopefully I will get another interview. This is even better than the other one because the station is in my neighborhood!

Update 01/30/05:
I have an interview for the Crimewatch job on Wednesday and I also heard from the person who is hiring the Program Scheduler at work, I will probably talk to her again on Monday. It will be interesting to see what happens. Also last week I got to meet the projectionist at work and get a tour of the booth. Very cool- I didnt realize how complicated coordinating the movie with the sound and the timing of everything was. The guy that was showing me everything was very cool, I'm glad he took the time to show me some of what he does.

06/17/05: Ok, really I just didn't want to jinx myself so I have kept from updating this section for awhile. Now I'm golden with everything seemingly in place and I can say that I have acquired a new position within the museum. This is very exciting because not only is it full time, but it is a fun and interesting position working with a variety of departments, volunteers, curators and the public. It is also forcing me to become very well organized, which is awesome! Hopefully, I learn the routine as quickly as possible so I can build my knowledge and tap ye olde font o' creativity that has been stifled for years. rock on!

09/18/05:
What an interesting job! It never ceases to entertain me. Yes, I do have to work weekends, but there are definately worse things I could be doing. Today I started the day by greeting our Civil War reenactors and photographed their drill on the front lawn (guns a-blazin' and all!). Then after getting them inside for a gallery demo, I took to the lawn myself for Spear Throwing and although it was slow going and not many people around (probably due to the football game) the weather was gorgeous and heck, I got paid to throw spears for a couple of hours! Then after getting all of that put away and meeting the Civil War gents for their departure, the task was to train volunteers on a Medieval Armor discovery cart. Of course, things aren't always so fun, but hey- most jobs don't even have a little reprieve, so I am thankful for the experience.

02/14/06
My neice's birthday is coming up and I'm trying to figure out a plan. Ideally, she could come to town and we could go to all the cool places the "big city" has to offer. That, however, is just not practical and the more I think about it, she would have just as much fun doing stuff closer to home. So then I started to plan things for us to do; go to the mall, the arcade, etc, until I realized the reason she had so much fun last year was because for this one day SHE got to direct the day's activities.

The Floater- Self-Fulfilling Prophecy
When I was in 8th grade my favorite junior high teacher told me I was a "floater". By this, of course, he meant that I had no direction and honestly he was right (although I dont see why it matters in 8th grade). Unfortunately, I never managed to acquire any either. Its not that I lack the desire or ambition to do anything, its quite the opposite really. My problem (if indeed it is a problem) is that I want to do everything, but not in an overachiever-actually-DOING-everything sort of way. More like a hem-hawing-maybe-I'll-try-this-no-how-'bout-that, sort of way. The things I end up doing are those that take a short term commitment and minimal effort. Sad, isn't it? Sometimes I think I would love to work at the same place forever and participate in the routine handed down from a benevolent employer. But then, inevitably I want to try more things. I just cant help it, after a year I get restless. Its not like I've ever been fired or laid off, never just walked out of a job and I've never had any real awful jobs either. I have acquired computer skills, retail, office, customer service skills. I've also worked at fitness center, factory and did lawn maintenance for a few years. I have a college degree and I've started my own business. The list of things I want to do is 10 times longer.
Yep, I am a Floater.
Grrrrr....

Angie and I during a powder puff football game in high school. We are supposed to have a reunion this year, I hope she goes- I haven't seen her in years!
