| 2006 Mission Trip - Biloxi, Mississippi |
|

We are growing and so are our mission trips. In January 2006, a team went to Biloxi, Mississippi to assist in Katrina cleanup. Then a larger group went back in March. Another trip will be planned in the near future. Come join us in spreading the love of Christ by lending a helping hand. | |

On Sunday March 23, a group of 18 left to go to Biloxi, MS. Our group consisted of members from four area churches.
During our trip, we roofed Ken's house. Ken, a former roofer himself, was now in a wheelchair. He was a very nice man and provided us some roofing tips to help us work more efficiently. Ken never complained of his situation, but was grateful we were there to help him.
Eric and I were pulled off of Ken’s home early to go work on removing parts of a leaking church roof and to re-apply tar paper to the leaking areas. There was a big storm coming so they wanted to get it protected from the rain. That church is getting a new metal roof.
We also met Noah and Helen. We removed walls, siding, and debris from their house. Some from our group re-wired the upstairs. Their house had approximately 16 feet of water in it after the storm. Most of their belongings were either washed away or ruined by the salt water. They now live in a camper provided by FEMA. Ken had a machine shop beside their house that he made turtle extruders for fishing nets. All they had was destroyed and he said his help has left so he probably would not start the business back up. They were a very nice couple and never complained of their situation and were grateful we were there to help them.
We also met Flora Jean. She was needing a roof on her porch area (another group had roofed her home.) She was keeping her 5 grandchildren while her daughter was working in another state. They were staying in one room and sleeping on the floor. Some of our guys found two beds and delivered them to her. She was very thankful. She has such a strong spirit for all she is going through and never complained of her situation.
The experience was great and I made some new friends and grew closer to all the people I worked with. It was a blessing to help these desperate people and they blessed us in return by their strong spirit to survive. What impressed me was that not one of them complained. They just thanked us over and over for our help. If you ever get a chance to go help, please don't turn it down as you and they will both be blessed. There is something for everyone to do down there. Help is needed to support the workers so working back at the church that hosted us is a tremendous help.
We returned on Friday, March 28th. Thanks for your prayers and support.

Pastor Al, along with several members of the congregation participate in the local mission field as their schedules allow. We have worked in Clyde, NC helping rebuild flood damaged houses several times throught the year. In October several members went to, Slidell, LA to assist in Hurricane Katria cleanup. We hope to expand this work as we gain new members that are able to go on these types of trips. |
