Northside Common Ministries (NCM), an affiliate of Goodwill Industries, honors the selfless volunteer service and leadership of two Thrivent members:• Wendy Hall, of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Wexford and
• Naomi Howard of Berkeley Hills Lutheran Church.
The awards will be presented at the NCM Champagne and Diamonds Dinner to be held at a future date.
Northside Common Ministries, founded in 1982 by a group of churches, attempts to meet the need of the homeless. The Pleasant Valley Shelter houses 25 to 30 men, and shelter is supported and facilitated by hundreds of volunteers. Members of over 60 church congregations who provide evening meals for Shelter residents throughout the year.
The NCM Community Food Bank (412.323.1170) serves approximately 600 to 700 qualified families each month. Among local food pantries, it is the largest single client of the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. The Pantry has only one paid staff person, with dozens of volunteers work to solicit food contributions and assist clients in obtaining other necessary services.
