Council Minutes (Pending Approval) October 11, 2009

A motion was made, seconded and approved to accept the minutes of the September 13, 2009 council meeeting.

Pastor’s Report: Had a good vacation. Working with Renee and the kids on Youth Sunday. Also working with Confirmation kids as well as their parents to encourage them to “take faith home.” Conducted a New Member Class on October 11th.

Treasurer's Report: A motion was made, seconded and approved to accept the Treasurer’s Report as presented.

Funds Activity Report through 9/30/09 was presented. Discussed funds which had no activity during the past year and whether they should be put back into the General Fund. A motion was made, seconded and approved to accept the Treasurer’s Report as written and to transfer balances from all but three of these funds back into the General Fund. The funds which will remain open will be the Robert A. Miles, Jr. Memorial Fund, the H.E.L.P. Fund and the Community House. The balance of the WheatRidge Ministries fund will be mailed to them. Reports on the youth checking account for the year through August was received and distributed.

Christian Education (Donna) - Continued to work on plans for Reformation Sunday (Youth Sunday), “Birthday Party for Jesus” and Christmas Program.

Endowment (Fred) – No report

Fellowship (Kevin) – Wednesday Evening Meals will begin on October 21st and will run for approximately 6 weeks until Thanksgiving. Congregation is encouraged to invite guests and prospective members.

Property (Norman) – House on church property will be burned by the Fire Department.

Stewardship and Finance (Bob) – Revised Budget Proposal was presented and discussed. Confirmation Camp was moved as a line item under Youth to Christian Education. Council members will go back to their committees to review budget requests and actual 2009 spending by committees to determine if any decreases to budget line items can be made. A special Council meeting will be held on Sunday, November 1st, to finalize the budget.

Other Business – Town Hall meetings were held today after both worship services. Discussed comments received from various people. Church members were encouraged at both Town Hall meetings to share any comments, concerns or suggestions they have with Council members. Council will discuss any additional feedback received at the November Council Meeting before voting on a final Strategic Plan to present to the congregation for approval at the Congregational Meeting on November 15th. A Congregational Meeting will also be held on December 13th to discuss and approve the budget.
