Twenty-Fifth Annual Synodical Convention

Blessed John XXIII Pastoral Center
The twenty-fifth annual Synodical Convention of the WV-WMd Women of the ELCA will be held August 3-4, at Blessed John XXIII Pastoral Center, Charleston, WV. Join us for a spirit filled weekend. The convention will be divided into two parts. Business sessions will be held on Friday. Saturday is reserved for spiritual growth and connecting with our friends. Executive director Linda Post Bushkovsky will be joining us. She is anxious to meet with women from various units. Don't miss this chance to connect with our churchwide organization.

2011 Synodical Convention
West Virginia Western Maryland Women of the ELCA met at Bishop Hodges Pastoral Center at Huttonsville, WV August 5-6 for their twenty-fourth annual convention. The theme was "Sisters Supporting Sisters". Beverly McDonald and Jane Hazer were convention chairs. Dolly Nilsen, president, presided over the converntion. The weekend was spent in celebration of the wonderful sisterhood between Christian women and included activities to find a new close sister, Bible Study and devotions as well as the conduct of business of the Synodical Organization. As usual laughter rang through the convention hall and music led by Pat and Lynn Schillings accompanied by Karen Stouch uplifted everyone. Pastor Christine Olson assisted by Bishop Dunkin conducted the closing worship service.
8'rh Triennial--Call to Action
Several Memorials and Resolutions were passed at the Eighth Triennial Convention of Women of the ELCA. Women are called to action on several issues. Below are links to resources for advocacy. Do your part to make a difference. "God's Work--Our Hands".

Gender Justice: "Resolved all Women of the ELCA be encouraged to stay in touch with the ELCA Washington Office, seeking and engaging in opportunities or advocating for gender justice here and around the world."...
Resolved all women of the ELCA b encouraged to familiarize themselves with the ELCA justice for Women Web Pages, which address this issue and can provide programming ideas...." Units are encouraged to conduct programs on this topic.

Lutheran Campus Ministry: Resolved Women of the ELCA prayerfully consider "in future budget" their financial support of and partnership with Lutheran Campus Ministries.

1000 Days Initiative: One thousand days is a nutrition program involving pregnancy through age two in African countries. "Resolved that Women of the ELCA be encouraged to support 1,000 Days through its synodical organizations, it's congregations and its individual participants,...."

Climate change: "Resolved that we as individual participants, congregational units and synodical organizations of Women of the ELCA continue to educate orselves and our families and our congregational units about the many aspects of climate change and its effects and be it futher Resolved that synodical organizations be encouraged further to use synodical newsletters as an avenue of education on climate change.....Resolved that synodical women's organizations coooerate with the ELCA State Public Policy Offices to which they affiliate and with the ELCA Washington Office" (WV-WMd has no state office)
