Michael Moran of Iowa City is currently serving his fourth term as President of the Thrivent Johnson County Chapter. Prior to serving as President, he served one term as Vice President and a year as the TB Chapter Specialist. His leadership has allowed the Johnson County Chapter to consistently be one of the top chapters in Greater Iowa. Mike is a great model for others by his willingness to be actively involved in chapter projects and he was instrumental in insuring that the 2 Thrivent Builds homes in his area were extremely successful.

In addition to his exemplary service with Thrivent, he currently serves as a Director on the following boards: the Iowa Valley Affiliate of Habitat for Humanity; The Greater Iowa City / Coralville Area Sports Authority; The American Park and Recreation Society; and the National Program for Playground Safety. For the past 22 years, Mike has volunteered his time to serve as the State of Iowa Coordinator for the National Youth Sports Coaches Association.

He also finds time to be an active volunteer for Zion Lutheran Church in Iowa City, serving 4 years as congregation president, 6 years on the Board of Congregational Life and 7 years on the Mutual Ministry Committee. Pastor Dwight Dubois commented, “Mike is always there…tough when he needed to be, fun loving when appropriate, and always hard working. His openness to options made him instrumental in the change that the church council made to the Worshipful Work model, which in turn led to substantial changes in the congregation.”

Mike was also just recently honored at the Iowa Fraternal Congress as the 2008 Iowa Fraternal Congress Fraternalist of the year for 2008.
