Long time no write. Things have been hectic around here. SCKTRO offices were closed the last week of August and the first week of September. We were closed to get some things figured out and take some time off for ourselves. My family and I went to Albuquerque, NM over the Labor Day holiday. My husband has a cousin there who we were visiting. On Friday, August 29, Duane Pember, one of our construction site coordinators had a massive heart attack and passed away here at the village. His funeral was September 2. It was a shock to all of us. We are all grieving. We had a small memorial time for him at our meeting on Tuesday, September 9. Kelly read Psalm 15 which describes Duane well.
If you want to send personal condolences here is the address: Mrs. Duane Pember-313 Kenyon St.-Jetmore, Kansas 67854-9075
We are putting out a cry for volunteers for the rest of this year and until at least September of 2009. We are in desperate need for volunteers, skilled or otherwise. If you have the heart for helping us out please let me know and I will schedule you to volunteer.
Another thing about volunteers: we may ask your group to split up and work at different projects. If that is at all not possible there may be concessions made. Also, we are asking that all volunteers have their tetnus shots current.
We are booking volunteers for both Mennonite Housing and SCKTRO. Mennonite Housing has committed themselves to building 50 houses here in Greensburg. They are planning on still using volunteers until at least September of next year.
We still have many projects that we need to get finished up.
