The Meaning of Membership |
What does a good membership experience mean to you? Many people join an organization after shopping for a long time. You might say they found a place that fit their needs. You may have heard of the phrase, “Church shopping.” We decide on the church if it has enough of the programs we want for ourselves or our families. Some people join an organization because they believe in its mission. You might become a member of an organization that is committed to building homes, doing mission work in a foreign country or one that takes care of homeless people. These are wonderful reasons to belong to something, for your values are lived out as you serve others.

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is a membership organization. As a fraternal company, we would like your membership to be truly meaningful. We would like to see our members with secure futures; we would like to see them pleased that they have chosen to work with us. Because we also serve the Lutheran community and beyond, we certainly hope that you will enjoy using fraternal benefits to help others. Working together we make an incredible difference in our congregations and communities. We have learned much about our members. About a third of us enjoy volunteering – we are pretty good at that. But even more say they would enjoy learning more about the financial realities they face. Others are seeking a few good social activities or celebrations to enjoy, so that they might join other members at a ball park or reception. And we also know that the closer your relationship with your financial representative, the more you appreciate your membership with Thrivent Financial. Our Lutheran Community Relations team is working hard to help you enjoy your membership with Thrivent Financial. There are opportunities for service, to help support causes you value the most, and there are opportunities to help those in need. There are fun events to attend and educational programs offered through your Financial Representative. Membership means many things to many people – make it count for you! Davis County Chapter Renovates for Join Hands Day |
|
The small Chapter of Davis County, Utah, just north of Salt Lake City, and comprised of just four Lutheran churches, took on a big task—renovating an old, garage-like structure into a community youth room. As it turned out, the youth and adults of several other local churches-Baptist, Mormon and others, pitched in and the project became a real ecumenical activity, for the benefit of the entire youth community. Thanks to contributions by a local engineering firm, who did the structural and environmental analysis, a local drywaller who contributed his time and expertise to supervise and install the drywall, and several local building supply firms who provided free or reduced-cost materials, the project cost just over the $1,000 seed money from JHD. (The balance was covered by the Davis County Chapter leadership board.) FR, Ron Sheltra (Wasatch Front Associates) wielded a mean paintbrush and sported a bright blue JHD tee shirt. |
