| | Bob Fisher | Fisher a Financial Consultant serving lutherans and their family members in Spokane, built homes with Guatemalan families in September, through the Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity alliance. | After a weekend of travel and site-seeing, this special team of more than 30 Financial Representatives began work in Panajachel with Habitat for Humanity Guatemala. The volunteers were divided among four build sites to perform the heavy manual labor required to construct a home in Guatemala. The work included shoveling, sifting and carry sand uphill to the home site, transporting and laying concerete blocks and tying rebar. The cinder block homes will be a much-improved living condition for the families who currently live in huts and crowded rented rooms, like the many in Guatemala in need of better housing. | As the four homes were built, so were commitments to help alleviate poverty housing throughout the world. Before the representatives departed, they all pledged to lead another Thrivent Builds Worldwide trip. In addition, they each made individual donations that Thrivent Financial will add to for a total contribution of $6000. This act of generosity will build an additional two homes in Panajachel,Guatemala. | Thrivent Builds Worldwide |
| | "The family we were building with was thrilled at the prospect of living in the cinder block home with a tin roof and concrete floor, knowing that would be a stark improvement over their current living conditions," said Bob. "The Guatemalan people are incredibly content with what we in the United States would consider so little. It was humbling to witness the joy of those living such a simple lifestyle.""Throughout the week, our friendships grew with the families. They had a tremendous affect on us," said Fisher. "Love and thoughtfulness for others break through any language barriers." |
