May 23, 2010 CHAPTER MEETING MINUTES

On May 23, 2010, the Fairfax County Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans held its meeting at King of Kings Lutheran Church in Fairfax, VA. The meeting began at 7:05 pm as President Bob Sargeant called the meeting to order and opened with a prayer.

1) Report of the Records Director:
Robin Littleton
• Presented the minutes from the previous meeting. Minutes were approved.
• Presented the new Thrivent members. They were accepted. Welcome Letters will be mailed.
• Collected volunteer hours from board for posting to web online.

2) Report of the Financial Director:
Yong-Hui Carlson
• Question on LOL Woodburn project, they asked for and we approved up to $850, but expenses submitted were $1200, can we increase. Board can increase amounts after original approval, but decides to stay with original amount for this request.
• 2 projects completed, but checks have not yet been issued
• Discussed amount of operating funds that need to be used, should carryover less than $2500 to next year

o Participated in Call In Seminar, 2nd one Tuesday on How to Conduct Training
o Outline of advocate training that is being planned was presented
o Discussion to keep fairly simple (Meet & Greet)
o Decided to move this to the fall

o No Requests this month

6) Report of the President
Bob Sargeant
• Event at Mt Vernon well received
• Received 3 names of people interested in volunteering. Will ask them to attend an upcoming meeting to see about possibility of filling a few more board seats, Asst Financial, Events Chair and Youth
• Discussed what we need to do to become a Gold Chapter
o Motion to sponsor the Going Away event for Kai and Angela Muller who are moving out of state
o Possible event for board and congregational advocates at Wolf Trap. Motion and seconded, date to be determined in August
o Educational events – info from Bob to enter into the system
o Need to report 100% complete by Nov 1, need to make sure get requests soon and watch for events taking place after that
o Get a list of items from last year that we may expect for next year
o Board advisory process to be explained at next meeting

7) Items from the floor
• Dick – working on getting advocates on board for working with use for more visibility
• Robin – Brought up $150 in Thrivent supplies that have been offered to each church out of operating funds in past years, decision made to continue that, letter will be sent to each church

The meeting concluded at 8:45 PM

The next meeting will be June 27th at 6:30 at TBD Location
