This map was developed for Marcia Weaver of the Central Mississippi chapter of Thrivent for Lutherans. This map shows the location of every church in the chapter.1) I used DeLorme Street Atlas to get the basic map and then saved it as a jpg file
2) I then inserted the jpg file into MS Powerpoint so I could add the "balloon callouts"
3) I shaded in the counties that had Lutheran congregations by using the Powerpoint drawing menu (autoshape>lines>freeform) then making the shape semi-transparent (right click object>Format autoshape>Colors and Lines>check semitransparent)
4) I then saved the Powerpoint slide as a jpg using the Save as> JPG option from the pull down menu
ELCA congregations are the blue color and LCMS congregations are the green color.

Note: Marcia wanted to print the map so that meant I needed to maintain as high a resolution as I could. Powerpoint ties the image resolution to the size of the paper so I used the "page setup" option of Powerpoint (BEFORE inserting the picture) to select a custom size paper of over 30 inches on a side. In that way I preserved the original high resolution of the map as created by Street Atlas.
