Chapter donates ~$1,075 worth of Quality Foods IGA scrip to Salvation Army, & ~$1,075 worth of hams and turkeys to The Neighbors Place.
On the week before Christmas 2011, Chapter Board members coordinated the purchase and delivery of hams and turkeys to the Neighbors Place, and IGA gift cards to Salvation Army.
IGA gift cards were purchased through two Lutheran church scrip programs to pay for the turkeys and hams, and for direct giving.
At any time of year, when someone is hungry it is difficult for that person to think about anything else. This year may be especially difficult for some families who may need the Salvation Army's or the Neighbors Place's assistance for the first time due to extended unemployment.
We look forward to celebrating the birth of Jesus on Christmas Day with our families around lunches and dinners. Now we know that the families served by these two food pantries will not hunger either on Christmas Day.
