Oncology Care Bags: Thrivent Care in Regions Project

Thrivent gift bags to Oncology Dept.
Rod Place, Jenifer Leiding and Sterling Dahl of Heritage Financial Associates of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans in Ames and Story City received a grant of $2,000.00 from Thrivent and completed a “Thrivent Care in Regions Service Project” for Mary Greeley Medical Center’s Oncology Department. Dr. Larry Otteman was presented with 40 care bags to distribute to patients over the holiday season when he, along with the oncology department staff and families, go Christmas caroling to their patients, which they have done for 26 years. Dr. Otteman and staff had caroled to Jenifer’s father as he was battling cancer in 2004, and as a thank you for the special memory that was created for Jenifer’s father and her daughter who were caroled to at that difficult time, Jenifer, Rod, and Sterling created the care gift bag project and filled the bags with items one uses while undergoing treatment in the hospital, such as warm clothing items, toiletries, snacks, tea and cocoas, and other comfort items. Roxanna White of The Basket Boutique of Huxley helped order and prep the materials for the gift bags. Pictured from left are Dr. Larry Otteman; Jenifer Leiding, financial associate; and Rod Place, financial consultant. Not pictured is financial associate, Sterling Dahl.
Join Hands Day

Join Hands Day is a national volunteer effort that joins members from 76 Benefit socities and countless community organizations to send a unified message that volunteerism can--and does-- make a porfound impact in our nation.

On June 21 several members of Gilbert Lutheran church and community members joined hands to clean up debris along the walking path and paint several fire hydrants. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Story County Chapter supported the event by donating $500 to purchase two large oak trees for Upstill Park. Special thanks to Dave Hartmann who planted these trees near the new Ludwig shelter. Thanks to all who "joined hands" and helped with these projects.

Thrivent Builds and the Habitat House Project
Our first workday was on Saturday May 17th. The first three Saturdays were canceled because of the wet rainy weather.

The house has a poured foundation, basement floor, all of the floor joist, and most of the floor decking.
