Thrivent gift bags to Oncology Dept. |
Rod Place, Jenifer Leiding and Sterling Dahl of Heritage Financial Associates of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans in Ames and Story City received a grant of $2,000.00 from Thrivent and completed a “Thrivent Care in Regions Service Project” for Mary Greeley Medical Center’s Oncology Department. Dr. Larry Otteman was presented with 40 care bags to distribute to patients over the holiday season when he, along with the oncology department staff and families, go Christmas caroling to their patients, which they have done for 26 years. Dr. Otteman and staff had caroled to Jenifer’s father as he was battling cancer in 2004, and as a thank you for the special memory that was created for Jenifer’s father and her daughter who were caroled to at that difficult time, Jenifer, Rod, and Sterling created the care gift bag project and filled the bags with items one uses while undergoing treatment in the hospital, such as warm clothing items, toiletries, snacks, tea and cocoas, and other comfort items. Roxanna White of The Basket Boutique of Huxley helped order and prep the materials for the gift bags.
