Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has teamed up with Habitat for Humanity to build homes across the United States. One of these homes will be built in Hardin County. The at 1203 7th Street in Eldora has been donated and volunteers have begun work on the home.A single parent is recieving the home. As true partners, the family will be investing many hours of their own “sweat equity” labor into the build of the home as well. The family also had to show the ability to repay the 0% interest loan to Habitat for Humanity on a monthly basis. Our goal is to have the family in their home by Christmas 2006.
Volunteer work days are on each Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The total number of volunteers each weekend cannot be more than 15 due to safety issues and limited number of Habitat supervisors. We hope to have at least five or six Lutherans each weekend serving in some capacity, whether it is doing construction work or serving a lunch. Volunteers need only have a willing heart and Habitat will teach them the rest! There will be approximately 22 working Saturdays with four holiday weekends off.
Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is funding 70% toward the cost of the home and 20% is being raised by the local Habitat for Humanity affiliate in Hardin County. The Lutheran congregations in Hardin County are being asked to raise 10% of the total cost of the home which is $75,900. Our 10% as Lutheran congregations is $7,590 and when divided by the 11 Lutheran congregations, that is approximately $700 for each congregation. This can be done through fundraisers or straight donations of money.
