| Christmas Coaliation - Hands on Project - 2009 |
The Christmas Coalition provides needy families from Dearborn County with food, clothing , and gifts for Christmas. The families are prescreened by the Dearborn County Clearing House. Banks, businesses, civic organizations, churches and individual families make donations to the Coalition. Volunteers staff a store where the donations are recieved, separated and placed in inventory. The store is open from December 7 through December 20. During this time the needy families stop in and make a wish list with the pick-up day being December 21. In the interim the volunteers begin filling the wish list by family in preparation for pick-up day. Cash donations are used to purchase perishables so that the families have food for a nice Christmas |

| Kids Against Hunger Event |
The Dearborn County Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is hosting this event on April 18, 2009. Every hour of every day 12 children per minute die of starvation or malnutrition related diseases. Kids Against Hunger is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to end that tragedy. Kids Against Hunger packages and ships highly nutritious, life-saving meals to starving and malnourished children in developing countries and the United States. We do this by mobilizing the energy and caring of American children, teens, and adults on behalf of hungry children around the world. Kids Against Hunger seeks to end the literal hunger of poor children receiving the meals, but also satisfies a hunger among prosperous Americans, a hunger for meaning and contribution. This event will be held at St. John Lutheran Church - Hubbles Corner.
