Project Spotlight

Habitat for Humanity

The Yolo County Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and The Yolo County Habitat for Humanity have teamed up to help further YCHFH's mission to eliminate poverty housing and to make decent shelter a matter conscience and action. We have been funded with a Care in Regions Grant to help raise funds for the completion of the Yolo Habitat Houses. We submitted a grant proposal for a 3 to 1 matching with Thrivent Financial. This project will have three fundraising activities, requiring an estimated 1,350 hours of volunteer labor between April 1st, 2007 and November 1, 2007.

Project Activities:

Annual Indian Dinner Fundraising Project:
We hope to support this event by successfully soliciting one new sponsor; increasing projected ticket sales by 25 percent from 200 to 250 tickets, procuring 10 auction items, and setting up the Thrivent Display table. This event is scheduled for October 13, 2007. More Info→

Auctioning Bird Houses:
We are going to be auctioning 10 birdhouses built by congregational youth groups and decorated by local artists. Each birdhouse will be sponsored by a particular congregation or community group.

Please c'mon on out to work. WE NEED YOUR HELP! Give us a call to tell us which day you can work. If you want to put together a work group for a Saturday, we still have Saturday September 22 open. Thanks for your commitment to helping those in need of decent, affordable housing.

Project Spotlight

Mt. Cross (Lutheran Outdoor Ministries)

Mt. Cross is an outdoor ministry that was created to serve Lutheran Congregations of Northern California and Nevada. In order to preserve this ministry, we need people who provide a bridge between ministry of camp and the ministry of our Lutheran congregations throughout the Sierra Pacific Synod of the ELCA and the CA-NV-HI District of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. We call these people our "Mt. Cross Rangers

The Mt. Cross Ranger Program:

Being a Mt. Cross Ranger MEANS: Promoting Mt. Cross events at your church, placing news about the camp in your church bulletin or newsletter, promoting the summer camp program, and helping to raise money for the camp.

Mt. Cross Rangers come to Mt. Cross at least twice a year, Friday overnight to Saturday, for a meeting to plan Mt. Cross events, like our annual Memorial Day Work Weekend and other activities. It is a great way to get to know the camp and ministry. The ministry at Mt. Cross is enriched and enhenced by the ranger program
