CAIC Eligible Activities
To request funds for Care Abounds in Communities in 2012, we ask that you submit your request as soon as possible, but no less than 45 days in advance of your activity to Judy Knueppel at henryandjudyk@att.net [email submittal is preferred] or 1233 Grove Ave, Park Ridge, IL 60068. Please follow up with a phone call to confirm that your request was received (847) 692-4563.
The Board looks at requests using a 7:1 guideline in determining the supplemental funds provided to your project. This ratio has been established to show the IRS that as a fraternal benefit society we are providing a great return on investment by our fund raising and volunteer hours for community service projects.
Here is an example to help you understand the 7:1 ratio:
$1000 1. Enter the est. funds raised or est. cost of hands-on service project
_ 100 2a. Enter the est. number of volunteer hours
$1800 2. Multiply line 2a by $18.00 (this is the value of the volunteer hours)
$2800 3. Total est. value for the project: add lines 1. and 2.
$ 400 4. Divide line 3. by 7
Line 4 will give you a general estimate of the CAIC supplemental funding for which you may be eligible.
Note that the minimum request for funding is $100 and the maximum is $1,600 for a 501c3 nonprofit organization or $5,000 for an individual in need.
It is VERY IMPORTANT that all volunteer hours are counted for your event. Include both members and non-members time. Include the planning time, advance shopping, driving, setup, cleanup, practice time for volunteer musicians, etc.
The local Thrivent board evaluates each request individually and makes a determination of the supplemental funding that will be provided.
Care Abounds In Communities is a program that provides supplemental funding to recipients that are 501c3 non-profit organizations (not congregations) or needy individuals and families. To find out how the Care Abounds In Communities program works, go to the Thrivent website:
