Thrivent
Builds

As part of the 4th
year of
Thrivent Builds national
commitment to Habitat for Humanity, a 5th home is being built in Longmont. This brings the total gifts from Thrivent to homes in the St Vrain Valley to over 1/2 million dollars. This home is at 1416 Blue Moon Drive in the Shadow Grass Subdivision near 17th St and County Line Rd 1 in Longmont. This home is for the Soto family. The home is expected to finish in July/August 2009. Contact the Habitat office at 303 682 2485 to volunteer.
News from the Thrivent Builds Specialist
Now how’s that for a long winded title for a volunteer position!
Hi, I’m Bob Cotton, a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Longmont. I volunteered for this position in the spring this year. My mission is to develop a bond with the 14 churches that our Chapter supports and encourage them to budget monies towards the Thrivent Build homes and put together work groups, a couple of weekends a year. Many hands make light work!!
This year the Thrivent home at 1621 Otis Drive is Longmont was dedicated on December 20th. The joyous Bernadette Ochoa family received the keys. All the congregations were invited to attend the event. Through the end of November, with generous donations of the Chapter churches, nearly $14,000 was raised to match the $107,000 given by Thrivent. Your volunteer persons, Lutherans were 228 of which 151 were Thrivent members. All together total volunteer hours were 2,511!!! Great job Lutherans and Thrivent members!!
Based on our successful efforts this year, Thrivent has awarded us $109,509 towards a Thrivent Builds home in 2009. The total home cost will be $168,474 and our combined 14 churches are asked to raise 10% of this, $16,848.
The expected ground breaking for the home will be in the spring, April or May and a very deserving couple with handicap accessible needs has been selected to become the new owners.
I will be happy to make a presentation to your congregation or specific group to explain more fully about Thrivent’s role with St. Vrain Habitat for Humanity and how you can help to get this 2009 home financed and built. Please contact me.
Blessing,
Robert Cotton
