Ebenezer VBS Helps Students in Crisis

Beth Helmy, VBS director and Judy Exley, VBS Treasurer, receive check from Marty Hendrix, Effingham County Thrivent Chapter President
This summer, the Ebeneezer Vacation Bible School offering was designated to help students in Effingham County Schools who are having major health crises. The Effingham County Thrivent Chapter supplemented the funds raised and 3 families will each receive a check from the VBS and Thrivent for $650 to help with their expenses.
Chapter Sponsors Bike Ride Rest Area

The Rest Area Sign from the road. The Thrivent rest area was positioned at Jerusalem Lutheran Church.
On April 30th, the Effingham County Chapter of Thrivent sponsored a Rest Area for Cyclists on the River to River Bike Ride. Cyclists could choose to ride 15, 31, or 52 miles in a scenic bike ride in Effingham County in an effort to raise money for the Mars Theatre. The Mars is a community theatre that is undergoing restoration. Thrivent members enjoyed greeting cyclists as they stopped for a drink and some food.

Cyclist and Thrivent member, Joe Copeck, visits with his family at the rest area as he takes a break from riding.

Thrivent is featured on this sponsorship sign for the River to River Bike Ride.
Helping those affected by the April 27 tornadoes
The Effingham County Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is collecting funds to help those whose lives were turned upside down by the deadly April 27 tornadoes in the South. Please consider an offering on one of the upcoming Sundays when our chapter sponsors a free will offering for this effort: May 22, May 29, or June 5.

As part of a special National Chapter Response effort, Thrivent Financial will add $1 to every $2 raised, up to $250,000, to support relief efforts. All funds will be contributed to Lutheran Disaster Relief, ELCA Disaster Relief and LCMS World Relief and Human Care to be used exclusively to aid victims of the April 27 tornadoes. This additional funding, together with chapter response efforts nationwide, has the potential to raise at least $750,000 to support disaster recovery efforts.

How to contribute
Make a check payable to your church and write “April 27, 2011 Thrivent Tornado Relief” on the memo line. Your church will send the money to the Effingham County Chapter.
