Welcome to the Cumberland Island Chapter of Thrivent! |
Feel free to explore our site and see what is available locally and within the Thrivent Organization. Cumberland Island Chapter of Thrivent is located mainly on the Southeastern corner of Georgia, comprising of the cities of Kingsland and St. Marys, but covers a wide area to the west toward Waycross and north to Brunswick. Cumberland Island Chapter of Thrivent current has one church associated with our chapter, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church located on Highway 40 between K-Mart and Wal-Mart. Alton Dixon, owner of Stylin Fx inspired by his childhood memories in St Marys wanted his children and the children of the community to experience the same opportunity. So he got his friends together and started on a small scale to bring it back to Camden County. He came to our chapter and asked if we would help as a sponsor and also with the construction of a true southern "Christmas in the Park" on the waterfront. The first year was a huge success and it has continued to grow beyond ones immagination. Over 1,000 children and their parents joined in the 2008 activities. He expects it to be even bigger and better in 2009. Local businesses donated door prizes. Cumberland Sound a musical group from the area performed and in the evening a Christmas movie was shown. There are activities for people of all ages to enjoy. |

The picture on the left shows youth and adult members of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church signing the rafters for the Habitat home that was started in May of 2009. In the following weeks the volunteers were on hand to start construction of the local Habitat home in Kingsland, GA. Thus our Join Hands project for 2009 gave the youth and the adults a very rewarding experience.Our "Sailing to Fernandina Beach" has become an annual event where members anxiously await our Social event of the year. Richard Frizzell, Chapter Vice President provides us an armada of boats to ferry us from St Marys, GA to Fernandina Beach, FL for lunch. We join together at Brett's Waterfront Cafe for lunch. Of course, we have some land lovers that prefer to go by car, but they enjoy the fellowship and the good food. |
