A trip has a beginning and an end, however, a journey never ends.Even though we didn’t do much journeyin’ this year; as we begin our 10th year of full time RVing we find we have accumulated more than 174,000 miles.
One of our short trips was a visit with Micki at Pismo Beach. Denise, her Mom Sheila, Stanley & Mary joined us for a sunny warm day on the beach.
After meeting Don & Lee and enjoying a week in northern CA Gary persuaded us to take Hwy 1 down the coast through San Francisco. If you are familiar with this narrow winding section of Highway 1 you will say “they went where towing their fifth wheels?!” Yes, we did it again, we let Gary be the leader. It was a white knuckle trip which culminated in an extended stay in
Bodega Bay (see “Full Timing.”)
During our five month volunteer stint at Monterey County’s Toro Park Gary and Don built an outside kitchen facility. Then in June we journeyed six miles to Laguna Seca.
Side benefits of our duties at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca are first hand up-and-close exposure to major racing events. One day Betty looked out the window to see what appeared to her to be a Mazda RX on the track. Later she learned it was a $1,000,000 - 650 hp one-of-a-kind Bughatti! Oh well.
Especially fun were the U.S. Sports Car Invitational and the Monterey Historic Races. Our favorites were the vintage muscle car races (vroom) but hard to resist were the Mini Coopers - so cute buzzing down the famous orkscrew turn. Here at Laguna we oversee the new hospitality suites and garages.
When Stanley talks of visiting Grammie & Papa it’s “Let’s go to the racetrack!”
