Warren Chester Dahl Jr., age 59, passed away March 2, 2003 at his parents’ home in Carlos, Minnesota after a brief illness. "Butch" had recently gone to work for the Veteran’s Administration in St. Paul as a service coordinator.Born in Florida to a military family, he was the eldest son of Warren and June Dahl. He lived in a number of states in the United States and experienced the cultures of many countries from Japan to Europe, as the family was transferred regularly by the United States Air Force.
A graduate of the University of Maryland with a BA in marketing, he served in Vietnam with the First Air Cav as a medical platoon leader. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, Air Medal, Combat Medical Badge and other campaign and theatre ribbons.
After leaving the military service as a Captain, he indulged his passion for fine automotive engineering by selling, through the years, Rolls Royces and BMWs. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Brother Dahl taught Sunday school and was active in all church activities. His faith encouraged his interest in family genealogy, an interest shared with many of his cousins and aunts.
Warren is survived by three sons: Brett, Joshua and Tyler of Spanish Fork, Utah; his parents: Warren and June Dahl of Carlos; brother: Douglas and wife (Pam) of Houston, Texas; sister: Diane (Stewart) Leavitt of Glenview, Illinois; nieces; nephews; cousins; aunts; uncles; and many friends. Loved and respected by all who knew him, he will be missed.
Funeral service was held on Thursday, March 6, 2003 at 11 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Alexandria with Bishop Neil Hansen presiding. Invocation was by Mike Murphy; eulogy by Stewart Leavitt; message by Brian Raabe; and benediction by David Hill. Musical selections were by Judy Tomaso, Gloria Gilmore and Jennifer Hansen.
Pallbearers were Brett Dahl, Joshua Dahl, Tyler Dahl, Jim Edmister, Alex Lewin, Chuck Gahm and Craig Johnson. Interment was at Carlos Prairie Cemetery in Carlos.
Services were directed by Petermeier’s Alexandria Funeral Care and Cremation Service.
