Majel Berg
Majel Berg, age 75, passed away peacefully from cancer on October 17, 2001 at her home on Lake Carlos.

Majel, daughter of Henry and Evanell Keck, graduated from Alexandria High School in 1944 and enjoyed roller skating at the Gang Plank, played in the High School Drum Corps, participated in class plays and loved her friends.

Majel attended Hamline University and the University of Minnesota. She graduated with a degree in elementary education.

Majel married Boyd Berg on December 26, 1948 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ of Alexandria. In 1950 they moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico. In 1954 they returned to Minnesota and made their home in Brooklyn Center, and in 1987 they retired to their lake home on Lake Carlos.

Majel taught third and fifth grade in Minneapolis, Albuquerque and Robbinsdale School District. She liked teaching and the children. She retired in 1986.

Majel was a wonderful wife, mom, grandma and friend. She is survived by her husband Boyd of Lake Carlos, Alexandria; her brother Henry Keck Jr., and his wife Alice of Albuquerque; and her three sons and their families from Maple Grove: Douglas, his wife Shelley and children Alex, Sarah, Rachael and Drew; Jeffrey, his wife Pat and son Eric; and Richard, his wife Mary and children Lauren and Mitch.

Majel was preceded in death by her father and mother Henry and Evanell Keck.

Majel was active in the First Congregation United Church of Christ of Alexandria, the Douglas County Historical Society, East Lake Carlos Homemakers, PEO and many community activities.

Majel loved family celebrations, friends, traveling, gardening, theatre, reading, playing bridge, golfing, aerobics, cross country skiing, nature and Lake Carlos.

A funeral was held on October 22, 2001 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Alexandria with Reverend Mary Kay Sauter officiating. Shannon Jones was the organist and Gloria Whiting, soloist.

Interment was in the Carlos Prairie Cemetery. Pallbearers were Douglas Berg, Jeffrey Berg, Richard Berg, Alex Berg, Drew Berg and Eric Berg. Honorary pallbearers were Sarah Berg, Rachael Berg, Lauren Berg and Mitchell Berg.

Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home.
