Grace Belle Pennar was born on November 10, 1913 to Garfield and Mabel Pennar in Alexandria, Minnesota. She attended and graduated as valedictorian from Alexandria High School in 1931. She was employed as a secretary at Gambles in Alexandria. She later moved to Minneapolis and continued secretarial work with Gellman Bros./Sally Distributors Inc. for many years. Grace retired and resided at Heritage Apartments in Osakis from 1983 until she moved to Knute Nelson Memorial Home in February, 2000.Grace’s hobbies included crocheting, knitting and anything to do with her hands and crossword puzzles. Her favorite pastime was writing letters to her family and friends.
Grace died on October 4, 2000 at the Knute Nelson Memorial Home at the age of 86. She is survived by her son, Carl (Betty) Nyberg of Fridley; daughters: Virginia (Robert) Bird of Acampo, California; Betty (William) Reed of Chico, California; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and nieces, nephews and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Thomas and Robert; an infant twin sister and sisters Dorys Newhouse and Florence Waldvogel.
A funeral service was held on October 9, 2000 at the Anderson Funeral Home with Reverend Russell Osterberg officiating. Diane Alveshere was pianist and Harland Angen, soloist.
Private interment was at Carlos Prairie Cemetery.
Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home, Alexandria.
