Reverend Lauretta J. Dietrich, Pastor
Sunday Mornings at Resurrection
We encourage families to be all together in worship. While we have a nursery room available with a volunteer to staff the nursery, we strongly encouarage families, even families with infants and/or toddlers, to stay together for worship. By staying together in worship, children a) see and hear what happens in worship, b) hear and learn the language of worship, c) learn how to behave in worship -- even though this will be a learning process for both child and parent, and d)learn that they, too, are part of the church, that is the body of Christ, the family of God.
Pastor Dietrich strongly believes that families grow in faith when they live out their faith at home, teach the faith at home in their daily lives, and connect regularly with the church, as a whole family, on Sunday mornings. Though the community of the Church, we participate in growing in and giving/receiving God's Word and the sacraments. Together, we share in ministry through prayer, tithes and offerings, and all that God gives to us through the community of the church.
Holy Communion is celebrated the first and third Sundays of each month and on major festivals of the Church.
From September-June, there is a refreshment and fellowship time available after worship. Members of the congregation sign up to provide the treat for the morning. Children are encouraged to at least greet Pastor Dietrich (with a handshake, high five, or hug) before they dash off to pick up a cookie after worship.
Congregation members, who are disciples (learners) of the gospel of Jesus Christ and apostles (ones who are sent out) to share the Good News, are, as according to Holy Scripture, are asked to TITHE -- that is contribute 10% of their time, 10% of their skills and talents, and 10% of their income for the mission, outreach and support of the whole Christian Church.
TITHING at 10% may not be possible for everyone at first, so you start at whatever percentage is do-able and challenging for you, and then you learn to grow in your giving until you reach 10% and beyond. We are called to give joyfully and thankfully to God FIRST, for that which God has done and continues to do for us!
Tithing and giving offerings is a way of living out your faith. As Christians, following Christ, we learn to give of ourselves, and when we give to God first and best, we are able to trust that God will supply whatever we need with the other 90% we keep for ourselves. Think about it, do you tip your waiters and watiresses or other service workers more than you give to God on Sunday morning? God rejoices when we entrust our whole lives into his care and safekeeping, including our time, talents, and income.
You should know that Pastor Dietrich does tithe, as every pastor should model this for her or his congregation. "I, Pastor Dietrich, learned about tithing (and to tithe faithfully) from my parents and grandparents. When I received an allowance as a small child, and when I began to earn some money as an older child, I was taught that giving 10% of my money for the mission of the whole Church (in other words, to/for God) was the very first thing I was to do with that money; then, I still had the other 90% to use in other ways. Tithing is a way of life for me. It is not always easy, and it can be very challenging, but God has never failed to sustain me and support me. Tithing continues to be a joy and a blessing in my life, and I tithe because I know that God uses my gifts to support and do ministry throughout the Church, throughout the world. I also tithe one way of trusting God with my life and putting God first, even in terms of the money I am blessed to earn."
