Minister’s Musings

This will be my last month with you before I go on Sabbatical for 3 months (1 December - 28 February). Already I am beginning to miss you, but I know this is necessary for both of us in order to grow in faith. For me, I’ll have the time to do some deep theological reading and to reflect on my vocation as a pastor. I’ll also have time to do some creative things like making enamelware. I’ll be visiting other worship services and meeting other Christians.

You will have the opportunity to grow as well. You will be blessed by a supply pastor on Sunday mornings, but will have the opportunity of having lay-led services as well. You will have one service led by Bishop Wells and one by Pastor Mark Nelson. You will have the opportunity to care for each other, being the body of Christ.

Sometimes congregations get anxious as a sabbatical approaches as generally both attendance at Sunday morning worship and giving drops. I therefore urge you to remember that you are not going to worship to see the pastor; you are going to worship because Jesus has promised to be there. We will continue with our practice of celebrating Holy Communion at each worship service except the Sunday after Christmas which will be our traditional service of Lessons and Carols.

We don’t normally think of winter as being a time of growth, but for St. Peter, this can be a very fruitful time. We are all in God’s hands, bound together in Christ. May God richly bless this time and keep the light of the Gospel that shines into Hillyard from St. Peter glowing brightly.
