We are currently supporting a physician, Dr. Manuel, who operates in the countryside of Ecuador. In 1998 and 2001, Ruth, a member of Salem Lutheran Church of Kissel Hill, traveled to Ecuador under the auspices of Global Out-Reach, where she met Dr. Manuel in the town of Cuenca, an old historic town at the foot of the Andes Mountains. Prior to joining Global Out-Reach, Dr. Manuel was trying to treat the people of his community in the front room of his house, but he had limited equipment. After returning to Lancaster, the Salem Women's Group raised money to buy some medical equipment, medications and vitamins and sent them to Dr. Manuel. Salem Church also set aside money in their budget to continue supporting Dr.Manuel. Today, Dr. Manuel has a clinic in his home town and makes the arrangements himself for other teams to come to his country to do surgeries, eye exams, etc. |
