My background is a degree in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences from UW-Madison in 1998, followed by a year in TV/radio broadcasting and world newspaper weather forecasting for Weather Central in Madison. I wrote a sarcastic weather column for the Badger Herald UW-Madison student newspaper in 1998, had an internship at the National Weather Service in Sullivan, Wisconsin in 1997, and was the Dousman Observer for 620 WTMJ and Channel 4 in Milwaukee from 1990 until about 1995. I was the Topic of the Month host on Lutherans Online during the month of May, 2003, I am an Official StormCenter 2 Weather Watcher for WBAY-TV in Green Bay (was featured on the March 30, 2005 newscast and the StormCenter 2 Storm Trackers Special on April 12, 2005), I am registered as a National Weather Service: Green Bay Storm Spotter, and I have been writing these Weather Updates since February, 2000. |

About my Weather Updates |
After I left Weather Central in February, 2000, I wanted a way to continue to do daily forecasting. Almost all the weather maps I used to develop forecasts are free and internet-accessible, so I started researching forecasts for the Madison area every morning and emailing them to four of my college friends. Entirely through word of mouth, my list slowly grew to the point where I now email almost 90 people every morning with my personalized weather update, with even more readers on my Web site.
In 2003, I started adding games to my updates, such as Balderdash. In 2004, I added a variety of other games, played them several times a week, and began keeping track of points and awarding weather-related prizes at the end of each season to the winner. In 2005, I added an overly-complex playoff system to my games.
I use Lutherans Online as my Web site hosting provider as I am a Senior Web Designer for the site with my regular job at Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. The forecast I write up most weekday mornings focuses on central and southern Wisconsin, particularly the Fox Cities, Madison and Waukesha areas, but I do specialized forecasts for family and close friends as well, such as Las Vegas, Houston, and Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. My other hobbies besides weather forecasting include bowling, basketball, tennis, softball, racquetball, disc golf, video games, ballroom dancing, piano composing, Web design, reading fiction books (Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Left Behind, Ender's Game, John Grisham, etc.), watching our DirecTV TiVo, and following local Wisconsin sports teams, particularly the Badgers, Bucks, Brewers, and of course, the Green Bay Packers.
