| | | CALVARY LUTHERAN CHURCH 4110 North Bailey at Oxford Amherst (Buffalo), New York 14225We have a beautiful contemporary-style church, consisting of three buildings on one level, which is handicapped accessible. As a member of the English District, we follow the teachings and practices of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. We provide a traditional liturgy that is rich in music. With our fine pipe organ and choir we present music of Bach and the other Lutheran masters. Our huge parking lot accomodates all visitors. We welcome you to come! |
| Under construction. Please check this area for Musical Events in the future.MUSIC AT OUR CHURCH SERVICES We regularly present organ music by Bach, Buxtehude, Pachelbel, Brahms, Mendelssohn, Reger, Bender, and other masters. Our choir presents works by Bach, Buxtehude, and various modern composers. The pipe organ at Calvary was originally built by Wangerin Co. of Milwaukee in 1924. It was tonally redesigned in 1999 by Rothenbueger & Ploetz of Buffalo (formerly with Schlicker Organs) and enlarged to 22 ranks and over 1300 pipes. It now has the upper work for performing the Baroque masters, a powerful pedal division, and the flutes, strings, and reeds for playing the Romantic and modern repertories. Organist is Dr. Lowell C. Green, who has studied organ under Martha Zehetner, Robert Scoggin, Walther Haffner, Georg Kempff, Robert Reeves, Jan Bender, and Roland Martin, as well as harpsichord under Kempff. Every Sunday - Traditional Liturgy at 10 o'clock a.m. Every Tuesday - Bible Study, 10 o'clock a.m. |
| | At our Sunday services, we feature the music of the classical composers such as Buxtehude, Pachelbel, Walther, Bach, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Reger, Bender, Pepping, Distler Bunjes, and others. Our choir sings the Introit and Gradual for the Day and also sings the hymns in alternation with the congregation. We use The Lutheran Hymnal and seek a hymnodic balance between the Lutheran chorales and the familiar English and American hymns.. |
