The Happy C.L.A.M. News - November 2, 2009

We continue to learn about Old Testament leaders as we hear the stories of Solomon and Jehosophat. In all areas of our life, God works for our good and blesses us with more than we ask.  God wants all people to know about His great love – we are invited to share the Good News of Jesus, our Savior.

Memory Work

WEDNESDAY: Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift! 2 Corinthians 9:15 (That is what GRACE is all about!)

THURSDAY: Give thanks to the Lord, for His love endures forever.  2 Chronicles 20:21 (We already know this verse – we will just sing it as a review)

With this issue of the First Grade News

*      November Book Club order blank (due Thursday, November 5 – checks payable to Scholastic Inc.)

*      November Book – It: Due November 30 but no sooner than November 16.

Hooray for the first grade!  We are doing so well in spelling!  This week’s words will challenge the children and they need to start tonight with the list to be tested on Thursday of this week.  Words to be tested are: one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, or.   The bonus words will be eight and nine.  It is more important to learn the numbers in bold print for the test.  Spend time on the bonus words only if the first eight words have been mastered.  Idea – lay out trick or treat candy in groups – have them write the number word for how many.

In reading this week, we will be learning the high frequency words: does, into, he, this, water.  We will also be reading words with the short vowel sound /o/.
