REMINDERS ARE A GOOD THING

Thank you to those of you who have been faithful in keeping your Mite boxes filled and turned in. A little booklet on Mite boxes recently came to my attention and the information contained in it may serve as a good reminder for all:

WHAT IS A MITE BOX?

It's a cardboard box (3 1/8 x 1 3/4 x 2 1/4) designed by the LWML to receive thank offerings, above and beyond our regular church giving. It holds pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, and dollars and checks.
While the mite box design has changed over the years its use is still the same--funding mission grants and programs to help spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

WHERE DO YOU FIND MITE BOXES?

The boxes are FREE. So are replacements.
Ask an LWML member or the church office to find one for you.
Then take it home and place it wherever you can feed it: dressing table, office desk, laundry room, car, kitchen counter, etc.
Remember to return your mite offerings on the 4th Sunday of each month.

WHO SHOULD USE A MITE BOX?

Anyone may--even husbands, fathers, grandfathers, uncles, children and friends.

WHEN DO YOU USE A MITE BOX?
Whenever...
* you have loose change.
* you are celebrating birthdays, weddings, baptisms, anniversaries, or special days.
* you have completed a goal or accomplishment.
Anytime is a good time to use your Mite Box, especially when remembering God's blessings to you.

HOW DO YOU USE A MITE BOX?
Use your Mite Box...
* as a reminder to pray that God may bless your offerings however small or great they may be.
* to be a part of the "mitey" force in the army of the Lord- together with fellow LWMLers to spread the "Good News" everywhere.
* to pray for one of the mission grants that the mites support. This biennium (2010-2012) there are 14, totaling $130,000.00 in our Pacific Southwest District.

Do you have a Mite Box?
If not, why not ask for one.

LWML SUNDAY OCTOBER 10

With the theme "PEOPLE OF GOD...IN THE WORD" the members of the LWML of Faith Lutheran will join with LWMLers from all 50 states to celebrate Lutheran Women's Missionary League Sunday. We at Faith will have an opportunity to assist in leading the worship on Sunday, October 10, 2010.

To show YOUR support for LWML and all that our organization does, we are asking that all women--young and old--wear something purple. It would be wonderful to look out over the congregation and see purple in every pew. Even is you aren't active in LWML, wear purple to show your support for our group and all that it stands for!

LWML ZONES 3 & 4 FALL CELEBRATION

Date: Saturday, October 23, 2010
Where: Faith Lutheran, Tujunga
Theme: Trust in the Lord
Who is invited: EVERYONE
Time: Registration begins at 9:00 a.m.
Special Guest: The Rev. Dr. Mark Brighton from Concordia University, Irvine
Registration Cost: $8.00 (Includes morning continental breakfast and lunch)

Publicity fliers will be out within the next several weeks, so be sure to look for them. As the hosting society, there will be numerous responsibilities for us to carry out. We will need many helping hands to make this day a success. It is our hope that you will consider assisting us with one of the various jobs that will be required.

SEPTEMBER MEETING DATE

After the summer break, we are ready to take on all of the activities this fall promises to bring. Join us as we make plans for the Zone Fall Celebration, LWML Sunday, and our 17th annual Cookie Faire. Our September meeting will be held on Monday, September 27th at 7:00 p.m. in the Fireside Room. All women of the congregation are invited to attend.

DORCAS NEWS
The Dorcas Society is named after a woman in the Bible who made clothing for the less fortunate. Our group has made quilts to send to Lutheran World Relief. Last year we made and sent 28 quilts plus other materials to LWR. Recently hundreds of the LWR quilts made their way to the Middle East as a result of the earthquake in Iran.
After many years of service, our local society no longer meets at Faith Lutheran. We have decided to allow our members to meet with other local societies, such as the women at Mt. Olive Lutheran. If you would like information as to where you can join the ladies making quilts, leave a message with the church office or see Mary L.
