Stewardship “Christian Stewardship is the free and joyous
activity of the child of God, and God's Faith’s annual Stewardship
emphasis will take place on two Sundays, November 5 and 12. As we consider all
of God’s blessings during this past year, we take time also to study and pray
in order to learn how God would have us respond in love to all of his good
gifts to us. A simple and short pledge drive is planned. Look for a mailing
with more information, and plan to be a part of all of the special days this
month. November 5 (All Saints Sunday) • Fellowship Luncheon following worship. The lunch will be served in a fun
way using bread bowls and a choice of soup or chili, along with other
accompaniments. Everyone is invited to take part in this fellowship meal. (No
pledges will be taken at this meal. A brief introduction will be made to
explain our method of pledging this year.) You
will have the option of making a freewill donation to add to our Roof Repair
Fund. Donations received on 11/5 should enable us to apply for the remaining
funds available to us for 2006 as a match from Thrivent
Financial for Lutherans’ Care in Congregations program. November 12 • Pledge Sunday This will be the day to make your
estimate of giving for the year 2007 and turn in your pledge during the worship
service. If you want more information about pledging, or if you need offering
envelopes, you may speak to Andrew B., Jim L.or David
P.; or leave a message at the church office (818) 352-4444. For those who are
not able to attend on November 12, the option of mailing in your pledge is
available. Thanksgiving
Worship Faith
will not hold a Thanksgiving Day service this year. Instead, the following
nearby congregations have invited us to join them in a service of thanksgiving
on Thanksgiving Eve: Wednesday, Nov. 22 at 7:30 P.M. Rev.
Chuck Pearson • Church Office (818) 248-3738 (Directions: East from Tujunga via Wednesday, Nov. 22 at 7:00 P.M. Rev.
Gary Heltsley • Church Office (818) 248-4253 (Directions: East from Tujunga via From the Secretary While it seems as if summer is a slow time, there has
been a lot of activity around the church campus this summer. There is always a
lot of maintenance and grounds work to be done, and we appreciate the efforts
of David P and Keith L. In addition, Jerry G. has been working on improving the
controls for the heating and air conditioning system. Tom H has been working on
re-painting in some areas. The contract to rent the school has been re-written
and signed with the help of an agent, and our Council and Committees have shown
their commitment by meeting regularly to make sure that things are running all
right and that we are following procedures to search for an Intentional Interim
Minister as the congregation has asked for. (At this time the District tells us
there is no one available for us.) Extensive repairs have been made to several problem
flat-roof areas around the Sanctuary, and some gutters have been added. The Air
Conditioner was found to have a leak and it was necessary to have that
repaired. Landscaping work is underway to solve the problem of ground uplift
and direct runoff water away from the church building. Therefore, if you notice
the church building begins to stand out more, it’s probably because things have
been cut back or removed, including plans to remove some large trees. A
lighting project in the narthex area (church entrance) is almost completed. We are blessed that Pastor Chuck Collier has been able
to serve us part-time on a quite regular basis, preaching for our Sunday
morning worship and leading our Adult Bible class. His leadership is greatly
appreciated. In addition, we are thankful that Mrs. D. Won, who has
a Master’s degree in organ, has been playing for us regularly on Sunday
mornings. It is a joy to have this musical support. All of our weekly volunteers are also making a great
effort to continue to conduct our services according to tradition, and keep our
worship area beautiful. The LWML is active, and the church’s fall and holiday
schedule is running pretty close to what everyone is used to. Please know that
I always appreciate reminders and questions, because in running the office
alone, I am bound to forget something! So call, e-mail, or stop by, and keep me
on my toes! – Kathy G. |
