St. Paul Nursery School
Family Newsletter
December 2011We hope this newsletter finds you all well and enjoying the busy-ness this holiday season brings! We enjoyed seeing our preschool families for the childrens’ concert last week. The boys and girls did a terrific job practicing their songs and giving you a wonderful way to begin celebrating Christmas! You should be very proud of them and their sweet voices!
We have been busy this Fall learning our ABC’s. We work on the sound our letter makes as well as practicing it in upper/lower case print. The children are being introduced to beginning math concepts of more/less, bigger/smaller, patterning, as well as matching of like objects. We just finished up with letter J and are currently taking a “letter break” to enjoy some time with holiday books and activities.
We also have Bible story time in which we are currently learning about the birth of Christ “away in a manger.” We started the Fall with the beginning Bible stories in Genesis and have worked our way up to Jesus as a new born baby. The children love that part of their day especially when Jelly joins our class. Who is Jelly? Ask your son or daughter, they will certainly know! We have also done Bible Trivia twice to review their cumulative knowledge. They have been rewarded by being able to choose a prize from our infamous treasure box.
We enjoyed our Fall field trip to Reake’s Pumpkin Patch in Truxton. Did you like the wagon ride and the baby animals? We also look forward to putting a couple more trips together for springtime. Children’s librarian Betsy Davison has been visiting our class too!

Things You Can Do at Home
1. We will be going outdoors through the winter for our fire drills as well as play time. Your child will need to bring snow pants, winter coat, hat, mittens, and boots. If you can have your child practice getting these articles of clothing on themselves with minimal help, it will make the process much smoother. Thanks!
2. Children can also practice using their scissors by cutting on straight lines made for them or can even help you clip coupons!
3. Please continue to foster their love of books by reading to your child. A book, a sport’s article in the newspaper, a magazine story, anything-they love to be read to! Even have them “read” to you by them telling you what the pictures are showing on each page.
4. Downtime can also be spent by quietly practicing printing their names.
