Prayer Labyrinth at St. TLC
Classical path of the Labyrinth at Chartres Cathedral (France)
A Labyrinth in the City of Miami Gardens:
To the best of our knowledge, there is currently no permanent Labyrinth installation in the City of Miami Gardens. St. Timothy is still hoping to provide the first such installation within the City. We hope and expect that the Labyrinth at St. Timothy will become a destination for neighbors, members of the community, pilgrims, students, and even tourists.

We envision:
* That the Labyrinth at St. Timothy will be listed on the Worldwide Labyrinth Locator, a web-based service that allows persons to find Labyrinths that are available for prayerful meditation;

* That Churches, mosques, and other faith-groups would arrange group retreat time walking the Labyrinth at St. Timothy;

* That Local schools would become aware of the Labyrinth at St. Timothy and arrange day trips for students to both learn about the history of labyrinths and make use of the Labyrinth themselves;

Three Phase Project
The installation of the Labyrinth at St. Timothy will be conducted in three phases.
PHASE I - Spring/Summer 2008
INCLUDES:

* the actual preparation of the ground,
* installation of a Garden Template Neo-Medieval St. Paul’s Labyrinth,
* finishing of the grounds using brick lines for the line length of the path, and
* infilling the path area with a mixture of sand and Portland cement.
The Labyrinth Company informs us that this finish allows for the Labyrinth to be fully ADA-accessible.

PHASE II - Fall 2008
INCLUDES:

* Beautification of the entrance to St. Timothy Lutheran Church, with a variety of hardy, colorful and well arranged plants to be placed by the entranceway.

* Signage welcoming visitors to the Labyrinth at St. Timothy.

PHASE III - Spring 2009
INCLUDES:

* Installation of benches,
* A fountain, and
* Foliage to enhance the area surrounding the Labyrinth at St. Timothy.

Just what IS a Labyrinth?
Many people say they have heard of a Labyrinth, but aren't sure exactly what it is.
Overview of a Prayer Labyrinth
A labyrinth is a singular path that lies in concentric circles with numerous turns leading into the center. There are no dead ends or false passages, but a winding path that ALWAYS leads to the center. After you reach the center, you can take time for meditation or prayer, and then turn to walk back out along the same winding path you came in. The religious community as well as the medical community are hailing the benefits of "walking prayer". Walking along this ancient design gives a double benefit: Along with spritual benefits, it calms the mind, relaxes the body, and reduces stress.
Prayer in Motion
The path is a metaphor for our journey in life with God. There is nothing magical about the journey. There are no tricks for the walker to "figure out" - there is one path. The walker sees the path laid out before him/her throughout the walk.

Yet... there IS the mystery of prayer, that we somehow communicate with our Creator and our Creator communicates with us. Scriptures teach: "The Spirit helps us in our weakness, for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words." (Romans 8:26)

Three stages of the Walk
ENTERING THE PATH/SHEDDING CARES:
* Walking quietly toward the center, we release our cares and concerns; we empty and quiet ourselves before God. As we surrender to the winding path, we find our selves prepared to experience wholeness and healing.

THE CENTER/ILLUMINATION:
* We pray and meditate within the circle, meeting with God and finding clarity for our lives. We remain as long as we wish, receiving whatever is there for us.

RETURNING/UNION:
* As we walk back out to the edge, on the same path, we are empowered by God through the Spirit to be more authentic in ourselves and our service to the World.
