First, Boy Scouting is open to boys who have graduated the 5th grade or are 11 years old, but not yet 18 years old. Currently, our Scouts are in the 11 to 16 years old range. We are an active Boy Scout Troop, with weekly Troop meetings, occasional day activities, weekend camping trips (every 6 weeks on average) and a week at Summer Camp in Sullivan County in upstate New York.
Our Boy Scout Troop started in 1927, but not at St. Jacobi. Back then, in our first few years, we had each year a different organization as our sponsor and a different place where we met for the first four years. In 1931 The Rev. Dr. Bauchman, DD, the new Pastor at St. Jacobi, found there was no Boy Scout Troop at his Church when he arrived for his new Call. He asked the local Boy Scout Council about starting one, and found Troop 350. which was in the neighborhood, was looking for a new home, yet again. Troop 350 then found a permanent home.
Since 1927, and almost continuously for 79 years (except for a year near the end of WWII) Troop 350 has offered the Scouting program of Citizenship, Personal Development and Physical Fitness through fun activities in the Sunset Park neighborhood. Today we are small but very active. We have always welcomed any boy from the neighborhood. A mix of faiths and ethnic backgrounds has always been welcome, and, that has made it so much more interesting at Troop 350.
If you are either a boy looking to check us out, or, a parent with an eligible boy, come visit, or contact us by calling the Troop Scoutmaster: Mr. Walter Forst at (718)854-0768.
