| | JANUARY POUCH CAMPOUT INTER TROOP EXTRAVAGANZA |

| Beech Cabin after it snowed | |
. Something a little different for the January camping trip to William H. Pouch Scout Camp on Staten Island. It was over the full Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend and we left on a Friday night. This was an invitational weekend between Scout Leaders who knew each other. The activities were loosely planned for both inter-troop and own troop time. For those going it was also a sort of farewell campout as well. Scouts attending were Michale Mehl, Raymy Xasqques, Ruben Veliz, Darren Thomass, Adam Abdelazi, Sammy Abdelaziz and Marco Ferraro. For Adam and Sammy it was the last campout before moving to Egypt in ten days. For Marco it was his last campout as a Scout as he turns 18 in two days. The adults for the weekend were David Fairhurst, Juan Ferraro, David Coleman and Walter Forst. Ir was a different campout in several ways. The first was that we went on a Friday night. Rarekt can we do that because of leaders and transportation availablity. Another thing was that we did not have to cook, as one troop took over the Berlin Lodge kitchen and fed everyone Dining Hall style. The Program started Friday evening with get to know each other activities between the six troops attending: 23, 350, 9318, 715, 20 & 76. Saturday and Sunday had both Troop time and Advancement activities and evening Program and some free time. Out Troop was in Beech Cabin near the Lake. It was OK with the weather being rainy Fruday and Saturday. Then Saturday evening the temperate started droping from the upper forties into the teens by Sunday evening - with about an inch of snow. Was it ever cold but at least we had heat in the Cabin. During Troop time the Scout found things to do. The Troop also had Boards of Review Sunday morning. This was becasue we had three Troop Committee members present and could hold Boards. Adam Abdelazi completed Life Scout and Sammy Abdel Aziz and Ruben Veliz completed Tenderfoot. In addition Marco finished Music and Indian Lore Merit Badges, since the Counselors were there with their Troops. Sammy completed Music Merit Badge. Raymy Vasqqqquez earned Communicationss Merit Badge as part of the weekend Advancement program. There were also several partials for other Merit Badges earned by our Scouts in the Advanncement activities. The Troop also participated in the Campfire program. They presented one of our tradition Campfire Challenges called "The Moon has a Round Face". They did it well and it was nicely received by the other Troops. Yes, it was a different kind of camping Trip. It is something that we are looking forward to for next year. It's noce to have a friennnnddddly, non-competitive interr-troop eveennnt. It was a fun weekennd anddd each Scout came home with new memories. . |

| | EARLY COURT OF HONOR HELD IN JANUARY |
Last gathering with Adam & Sammy Abdelaziz | | |
. An earlier than planned Court of Honor was held on Friday, January 20th, during the Troop meeting. All the active Scouts were present for this rescheduled event. Why was it earier than planned? Because it was done early to accomodate two Scouts who will be leaving the United States in the next week to move to Egypt. Adam and Sammy Abdelaziz will be moving with their family because of the health of their father. They will be lving in Alexandria. Plans are to transfer to a BSA Troop in Cairo. As for the Court of Honor the following were awarded: Adam Abdelaziz received American Cultures and Painting Merit Badges, also earning his Life Scout Rank. Sammy Abdelaziz received American Cultures, Citizenship in the World, Family Life, First Aid, Music and Paiting Merit Badges, also earning his Tenderfoot Scout Rank.
