2011 Confirmation Class |
Simone Marie Berryhill
Born October 27, 1997 Baptized February 22, 1998Statement of Faith I believe that God made Heaven, earth, and everything around me. God is the creator of the body and the soul. He made the physical light around us and the spiritual light within our hearts. God was never created, he has always been here. God sent his only son Jesus Christ to die on the cross for our sin.
I believe Jesus is the only son of God and the he was sent to die on the cross for our sins. Jesus didn’t have to go through the pain that he did, the reason he did is because he loved us. Because of this love we are able to be forgiven even when our sins are horrible, if we are truly sorry we will be forgiven.
I believe Holy Communion is the body and blood of Jesus Christ that is shed for us for the forgiveness of sins. Holy Baptism is God’s word and water combined used to wash the sins that we are born into, without God’s word the water is just plain water. To me being a Christian is more than just saying that I believe; it’s who I am and who I always will be. To be a Christian you must believe in God, trust in Him, know that he is always with you, and follow and preach his word.
Noah Joseph Davidson
Born September 5, 1997 Baptized November 11, 2007 Statement of Faith I believe that God is indeed the mighty creator of the Earth on which we all live. He is also the creator of all of us. By some, He is referred to as the Alpha and the Omega. Think about the sound of the term “Omega.” It kinda sounds like you’re saying, “O Mega God!” I suppose this could be used to refer to His power. Huge, awesome, mega power! God is so powerful that He could make whatever He wanted to happen, happen by just snapping His fingers. God is also the Father of Jesus Christ. I thank God very much for sending His one and only Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for my sins. The last word in that sentence tells us all why He had to do that for us. Sin. Sin should be considered a cuss word. It’s bad! Bad, bad, bad, bad, bad stuff! I mean really bad stuff. And it all started with Adam and Eve. If they hadn’t eaten the fruit, we wouldn’t be in this mess right now! The whole fruit story also tells us why we sin and where it all started.
I learned a lot of stuff in confirmation class and I still continue to learn many things. I learned so many things that I just can’t name them all, but I can tell you one thing: I can never remember the definition of the word “grace” off the top of my head. I also learned that’s it’s easy for me to drive people completely insane, but even more important, when to be serious about some things and what isn’t funny to joke about. I have more faith and I’m more of a believer than some people’s average profiling skills would lead them to assume, and what helps me keep my faith even in the most doubting moments of life, is my favorite verse in the Bible, Jeremiah 29:11. “For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the Lord, ‘plans for peace, not evil, to give you an expected end.’ ” Those plans that God has for me are what keep me from losing my faith.
I thank Pastor Bergman for educating me and helping me to the point of confirmation, and I also thank God and Jesus for helping me through the class.

National Youth Gathering Report |
The gathering was a great experience, whether we were in a session learning, at the mass gathering singing and praising the Lord, or walking to and from the hotel. Everyone youth should have the chance to experience this at least once.
Every morning we started our day by going to a bible study. Each day we looked into the book of John. First day we went through the story of Lazarus, on the second day we went through the story of the blind man, and on our last day we went through the story of the Samaritan woman. But out of all the bible studies the verse that stuck with me was John 20:31 "But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.", this was the verse that the theme was chosen from, "We Believe".
Everyday we had the chance to go to a one hour session. The session to choose from were anything from what other religions believe to learning that society's value system was wrong. But each session had its own moral, but the one session that spoke to me the most was Bob Lenz's dignity revolution. He showed me that society's value system is wrong. We cant judge people's worth on the way they look and that we have to stick up for what we believe in. He shared stories from his life about times he regretted, like when his special needs sister embarrassed him in front of his friends and he blew her off saying he didn't know her and he thought she was the neighbor's kid. Later on in the session he brought his sister out and she sang a song for us. And then he really explained the moral of his session, "every life is worth life", which was that in Germany there's a group called T4 that says every life doesn't have worth. And he believes that every life does have worth.
At the end of the day we walked a little over a mile to go to the Superdome for the nightly mass gatherings. At every mass gathering there was time for worship and praise, a guest speaker, further incite to the morning's bible study, and of course bits and pieces of comedy. At the mass gatherings there were 25,000 youth and adults. The sensation you get when you hear 25,000 youth and adults sing is indescribable. But each mass gathering had its own theme, they mixed it up every night. Each night they chose a new guest speaker to talk to us about something in life. Each speaker had their own message about life, whether it be live life to the fullest or don't take life for granted. But the part of the mass event the never changed was gathering news. Gathering news had to be one of the funniest part of the day. Gathering news kinda wrapped the day up by telling a little bit about what happened that day with some comedy mixed in. But the final mass gathering was my favorite. They had bought 25,000 boom whackers to give to everyone. And by then everyone knew the songs so everyone was singing.
So I say thank you for giving me the chance to go to the gathering. It wouldn't have been possible without yall. I had a amazing time. And I hope to go again in three years when it is in San Antonio, TX.

Valparasio University Report |
|
At Valparaiso University, I was one of only 4 children from Texas to participate in “Young Lutherans Sing”. I learned and sang many different pieces of music and learned new things. I learned how to ring hand bells and hand chimes and rang them in the closing worship service. I had 2 private organ lessons with Dr. Michael Burkhart (a well published Lutheran music composer and organist and clinician) and another lesson from Dr. Lorraine Braugh (vice chair of the music department). I also got to play on the big pipe organ at the Chapel of the Resurrection (the large church which seats 2000 people) at Valparaiso University. This is the largest pipe organ I have ever played with 103 ranks. Our day included daily dorm devotions with morning and evening worship services.
The Sunday before the music workshop started, my family and I worshipped at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Des Peres, Missouri, a suburb of St. Louis. Between services, I also played the Ott pipe organ which is one of the largest pipe organs in the St. Louis area. I was able to meet Dr. Mark Bender who has written many LCMS arraignments and has had many pieces published through CPH.
I want to thank the congregation for allowing me to have this unique opportunity to study with some of the best Lutheran musicians. This was truly a memorable experience.

Confirmation Statement of Faith |
|
I believe that there is only one God in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. I believe in God the Father, who made the heavens and the earth and every living thing on it. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, who came and healed the sick, the blind, and restored life to the dead. I also believe that Jesus Christ alone is the Savior of the world. I believe that Jesus was crucified, died, and was buried and that He rose from the grave three days later, and ascended into Heaven. By His death and resurrection He saved me from sin and death so that I will have everlasting life. I believe that the Holy Spirit has called me into a relationship with Jesus, creating the faith in me to believe. In Baptism, my sins are washed away, and Jesus has taken me to be His own. I believe His true body and blood are present in the bread and wine of Holy Communion, and that there I receive forgiveness of sins, life and salvation. I accept the Bible as the written Word of God, and in the Bible we have the Word of Jesus’ birth, life, death on the cross, and resurrection. God’s Law shows me my sins, and how to respect God. The Gospel shows me my Savior Jesus Christ, and the salvation that I have through Him.
| | We thank all of you who were involved with Nathan’s Confirmation Sunday. Thanks to Pastor Bergman for his teaching and picking THANK YOU: Nathan up from school so he could attend classes. James’ encouraging words to Nathan during the service and others who spoke encouraging words to him, the banner, gifts, food, and the fellowship on that Sunday. May God Bless all of you. In the name of Jesus, Burt, Elaine, Nathan Lightell
