Today, Lord, let my life be a prayer.
Let me be open to your presence so that I sense your power at work
in the world You created.
Let me be so filled with your love, it glows out to others.
Today, Lord, today...let my life be a prayer. AMEN

PRAYERS FOR THOSE NEEDING GOD'S HELP AND HEALING:

Dear Heavenly Father,
I pray for each of my sisters and brothers who are suffering from illness, injury or loss.
You brought the touch of healing to those who crossed your path in your earthly life.
You promised to respond to the prayers of your children who struggle to follow and
reflect you on this earth.
Reach out now to these, your children, with your healing touch.
They belong to you, oh, God, and yearn to serve you.
If it is your will, restore them to health.
May they sense your nearness, and be embraced by your peace.
Thank you, dear God, for your constant love and care.

This I pray in the name of Jesus, my Savior and Lord.
AMEN

A personal prayer:
Eternal God, Almighty Father, Tender Shepherd:
You already know my heart.
You know where I struggle with sin, so please empower and forgive.
You know my fears, so please encourage and strengthen.
You know my immaturity, so please nurture and grow.
You know my weakness and disease, so please comfort and heal.
But even if none of these are answered, I am still awed by the fact that you choose to know me.
For this I thank you, Lord!
o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o

I honor you as God Almighty.
I appreciate you for all your kindness and blessings lavished upon me.
I love you because you first loved me in Jesus.
My heart's desire today is to demonstrate my love for you in all I do and say.
In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Dear God,

A STORY ABOUT PRAYER
GOD'S 26 GUARDS

Here's a message that will bring you chills.

Have you ever felt the urge to pray for someone and

Then just put it on a list and said,

'I'll pray for them later?'

Or has anyone ever called you and said,

'I need you to pray for me, I have this need?'

Read the following story and may it change the way
That you may think about prayer and also
The way you pray.
You will be blessed by this....

A missionary on furlough told this true story while

Visiting his home church in Michigan .

'While serving at a small field hospital in Africa ,

Every two weeks I traveled by bicycle

Through the jungle to a nearby city for supplies.

This was a journey of two days and

Required camping overnight at the halfway point.

On one of these journeys, I arrived in the city

Where I planned to collect money from a bank,
Purchase medicine, and supplies, and then begin
My two-day journey back to the field hospital.

Upon arrival in the city, I observed two men fighting,
One of whom had been seriously injured.
I treated him for his injuries and at the same time
Talked to him about the Lord.
I then traveled two days, camping overnight, and
Arrived home without incident....

Two weeks later I repeated my journey.
Upon arriving in the city,
I was approached by the young man I had treated.
He told me that he had known I carried
Money and medicines.
He said, 'Some friends and I followed you into the jungle,
Knowing you would camp overnight.
We planned to kill you and take your money and drugs.
But just as we were about to move into your camp,
We saw that you were surrounded by 26 armed guards.
At this, I laughed and said that I was
Certainly all alone in that jungle campsite.
The young man pressed the point, however, and said,
'No, sir, I was not the only person to see the guards,
My friends also saw them, and we all counted them.
It was because of those guards that
We were afraid and left you alone.'

At this point in the sermon,
One of the men in the congregation jumped to his feet and
Interrupted the missionary and asked if he could tell him the
Exact day this happened.
The missionary told the congregation the date, and
The man who interrupted told him this story:

'On the night of your incident in Africa ,
It was morning here and I was preparing to go play golf.
I was about to putt when I felt the urge to pray for you.
In fact, the urging of the Lord was so strong,
I called men in this church to meet with me here
In the sanctuary to pray for you.

Would all of those men who met with me on that day stand up?'
The men who had met together to pray that day stood up.
The missionary wasn't concerned with who they were,
He was too busy counting how many men he saw.

There were 26!

This story is an incredible example of how The Spirit of the Lord
moves in behalf of those who love Him..
If you ever hear such prodding, go along with it.

Nothing is ever hurt by prayer except the gates of hell.
I encourage you to forward this to as many people
As you know.
If we all take it to heart,
We can turn this world toward God once again.
As the above true story clearly illustrates,
'With God all things are possible'.

More importantly, how God hears and
Answers the prayers of the faithful.

DEAR LORD we give you thanks for the beautiful gift of our faith,
For the powerful gift of prayer, and for the many miracles
you work in our daily lives.

THE LORD'S PRAYER (A learning visit with God)

**********
Our Father
Who Art In Heaven.
"Yes?"
Don't interrupt me. I'm praying.
"But -- you called ME!"
Called you? No! , I didn't call you. I'm praying.
Our Father who art in Heaven.
"There -- you did it again!"
Did what?
"Called ME.
"You said, Our Father who art in Heaven.
"Well, here I am. What's on your mind?"

But I didn't mean anything by it.
I was, you know, just saying my prayers for the day.
I always say the Lord's Prayer. It makes me feel good
kind, of like fulfilling a duty.
"Well, all right. Go on."
Okay, Hallowed be thy name. .
"Hold it right there.
"What do you mean by that?"
By what?
"By "Hallowed be thy name"?"
It means, it means, good grief, I don't know what it means.
How in the world should I know? It's just a part of the prayer.
By the way, what does it mean?
"It means honored, holy, wonderful."
Hey, that makes sense.
I never thought about what 'hallowed' meant before. Thanks.
Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done,
on earth as it is in Heaven.
"Do you really mean that?"
Sure, why not?
"What are you doing about it?"
Doing? Why, nothing, I guess. I just think it would be kind of neat if you got control,
of everything down here like you have up there. We're kinda in a mess down here you know
"Yes, I know;
but, have I got control of you?"
Well, I go to church.
"That isn't what I asked you.
"What about your bad temper?"
"You've really got a problem there, you know.
"And then there's the way you spend your money --
all on yourself."
"And what about the kind of books you read?"
Now hold on just! a minute! Stop picking on me!
I'm just as good as some of the rest of those people at church! "Excuse ME.
"I thought you were praying for my will to be done.
"If that is to happen, it will have to start with the ones
"who are praying for it.
"Like you -- for example."
Oh, all right. I guess I do have some hang-ups.
"Now that you mention it, I could probably name some others."
So could I....I haven't thought about it very much until now but, I really would like to cut out some of those things.
I would like to, you know, be really free.
"Good."
"Now we're getting somewhere. We'll work together -- You and ME.
I'm proud of You."
Look, Lord, if you don't mind, I need to finish up here.
This is taking a lot longer than it usually does. Give us this day, our daily bread.
"You need to cut out the bread."
"You're overweight as it is."
Hey, wait a minute! What is this?
Here I was doing my religious duty and all of a sudden you break in and remind me of all my hang-ups.
"Praying is a dangerous thing. You just might get what you ask for."
"Remember,
you called ME -- and here I am.
It's too late to stop now.
Keep praying. ( . . pause . )
Well, go on."
I'm scared to.
"Scared? Of what?"
I know what you'll say.
"Try ME." Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. "What about Ann?" See? I knew it!
I knew you would bring her up! Why, Lord, she's told lies about me, spread stories. She never paid back the money she owes me.
I've sworn to get even with her!
"But -- your prayer --What about your prayer?"
I didn't -- mean it.
"Well, at least you're honest
But, it's quite a load carrying around all that bitterness
and resentment isn't it?"
Yes, but I'll feel better as soon as I get even with her.
Boy, have I got some plans for her. She'll wish she had never been born.
"No, you won't feel any better. You'll feel worse.
"Revenge isn't sweet. You know how unhappy you are --
"Well, I can change that."
You can? How?
"Forgive Ann.
Then, I'll forgive you;
And the hate and the sin,
will be Ann's problem -- not yours.
You will have settled the problem
as far as you are concerned."
Oh, you know, you're right.
You always are. And more than I want revenge,
I want to be right with You. . (sigh).
All right all right. . I forgive her.
"There now!
Wonderful!
How do you feel?"
Hmmmm. Well, not bad. Not bad at all! In fact, I feel pretty great!
You know, I don't think I'll go to bed uptight tonight. I haven't been getting much rest, you know.
"Yeah, I know. But, you're not through with your prayer are you? Go on."
Oh, all right. And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. "Good! Good! I'll do that.
Just don't put yourself in a place
where you can be tempted."
What do you mean by that?
"You know what I mean."
Yeah. I know.
"Okay! Go ahead. Finish your prayer."
For Thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory forever.
Amen.
"Do you know what would bring me glory --
What would really make me happy?"
No, but I'd like to know.
I want to please you now. I've really made a mess of things.
I want to truly follow you. I can see now how great that would be.
So, tell me . . .How do I make you happy?
"YOU just did."

ZION'S MISSION STATEMENT:
(the words to)
"GO LIGHT YOUR WORLD"

1.There is a candle in every soul.
Some brightly burning, some dark and cold
There is a spirit, who brings a fire
Ignites a candle and makes his home.

Refrain:
So carry your candle- run to the darkness
Seek out the hopeless, confused and torn.
Hold out your candle for all to see it,
Take your candle, go light your world.

2. Frustrated brother, see how he's tried to
Light his own candle some other way
See now your sister,
She's been robbed and lied to
Still holds a candle without a flame.

Refrain:
Carry your candle- run to the darkness.
Seek out the lonely, the tired and worn.
Hold out your candle for all to see it
Take your candle- go light your world

3. We are a family, whose hearts are blazing,
So let's raise our candles and light up the sky
Praying to our Father, in the name of Jesus
Make us a beacon in darkest times.

Refrain:
Carry your candle- run to the darkness
Seek out the helpless, deceived and poor.
Hold out your candle, for all to see it
Take your candle, go light your world.

4. Carry your candle- run to the darkness
Seek out the hopeless, confused and torn.
Hold out your candle, for all to see it
Take your candle, go light your world.
Take your candle, go light your world.

A LOVE PRAYER
Heavenly Father,

Help us remember that the jerk who cut us off in traffic last night is a single mother who worked nine hours that day and is rushing home to cook dinner, help with homework, do the laundry and spend a few precious moments with her children.

Help us to remember that the pierced, tattooed, disinterested young man who can't make change correctly is a worried 19-year-old college student, balancing his apprehension over final exams with his fear of not getting his student loans for next semester.

Remind us, Lord, that the scary looking bum, begging for money in the same spot every day (who really ought to get a job!) is a slave to addictions that we can only imagine in our worst nightmares.

Help us to remember that the elderly couple walking annoyingly slow through the store aisles and blocking our shopping progress are savoring this moment, knowing that, based on the biopsy report she got back last week, this will be the last year that they go shopping together.

Heavenly Father, remind us each day that, of all the gifts you give us, the greatest gift is love. It is not enough to share that love with those we hold dear. Open our hearts not to just those who are close to us, but to all humanity. Let us be slow to judge and quick to forgive, and show patience, empathy and love.

AMEN

Prayer
Hello God,
I called tonight To talk a little while
I need a friend who'll listen To my anxiety and trial.
You see, I can't quite make it Through a day just on my own...
I need your love to guide me, So I'll never feel alone.
I want to ask you please to keep My family safe and sound.
Come and fill their lives with confidence
For whatever fate they're bound.
Give me faith, dear God, to face Each hour throughout the day,
And not to worry over things I can't change in any way.
I thank you God for being home And listening to my call,
For giving me such good advice When I stumble and fall.
Your number, God, is the only one That answers every time.
I never get a busy signal, Never had to pay a dime.
So thank you, God, for listening To my troubles and my sorrow.
Good night, God, I love You too, And I'll call again tomorrow!
AMEN

How do we PRAISE Him?

"Praise the Lord"
I will sing to the Lord all my life;
I will sing praise to my God as long
as I live. May my meditation be
pleasing to Him, as I rejoice in
the Lord. But may sinners vanish
from the earth and the wicked be
no more. Praise the Lord, O my soul.
Praise the Lord."
Psalm 104:33-35 (NIV)

Praise is letting God know we
recognize him for who he is, what
he has done, and what he is doing.
But more than informing God of his
greatness, praise is rejoicing
before him in his greatness and
recognizing that not only is his
grace without comparison, his
majesty and might and holiness
and faithfulness and righteousness
and mercy and love and forgiveness
and justice and... are without
comparison.

Praise is thankful celebration
that he is God, and even more
importantly, that he is our God!

(From Heartlight Daily Verse, June 4, 2003

IT IS STRANGE ISN'T IT...
(just some things to think about)

Isn't it strange
how a 20 dollar bill seems like such a large amount when you donate it to church,
but such a small amount when you go shopping?

Isn't it strange
how 2 hours seem so long when you're at church,
and how short they seem when you're watching a good movie?

Isn't it strange
that you can't find a word to say when you're praying but.
you have no trouble thinking what to talk about with a friend?

Isn't it strange
how difficult and boring it is to read one chapter of the Bible but
how easy it is to read 100 pages of a popular novel or ZANE GREY book?

Isn't it strange
how everyone wants front-row-tickets to concerts or games but
they do whatever is possible to sit at the last row in Church?

Isn't it strange
how we need to know about an event for Church 2-3 weeks before the day so we can include it in our agenda, but we can adjust it for other events in the last minute?

Isn't it strange
how difficult it is to learn a fact about God to share it with others; but how easy it is to learn, understand, extend and repeat gossip?

Isn't it strange
how we believe everything that magazines and newspapers say but... we question the words in the Bible?

Isn't it strange
how everyone wants a place in heaven but... they don't want to believe, do, or say anything to get there?

Isn't it strange
how we send jokes in e-mails and they are forwarded right away but when we are going to send messages about God, we think about it twice before we share it with others?

IT'S STRANGE ISN'T IT?

o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o
The Prayer
When Minister Joe Wright was asked to open the new session of the Kansas Senate, everyone was expecting the usual generalities, but this is what they heard:

"Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask Your forgiveness and to seek Your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, "Woe to those who call evil good" but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We confess that. We have ridiculed the absolute truth of Your Word and called it Pluralism; We have worshipped other gods and called it multiculturalism; We have endorsed perversion and called it alternative lifestyle; We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery; We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare; We have killed our unborn and called it choice; We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable; We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self-esteem; We have abused power and called it politics; We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition; We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression; We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment. Search us, Oh, God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free. Guide and bless these men and women who have been sent to direct us to the center of Your will, to openly ask it in the name of Your Son, the living Savior, Jesus Christ.
Amen"
