BETHESDA’S COUPON AND LABEL PROGRAM
Now that the weather will begin to turn colder, we start to think about having soup at our meals. A reminder, Ladies Fellowship is still collecting the UPC Code from Campbell Labels. You can put them in the large Campbell’s Soup Can located on the table next to the coat rack or in my mailbox. A copy of the Eligible Products and what to save can be found on the Ladies Fellowship/LWML bulletin board.

This program saves Bethesda Lutheran Homes and Services, Inc. thousands of dollars each year in needed supports and teaching supplies. Please call me at 386-9263 if you have any questions.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.
I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear son, that you have graciously kept me this day; and I pray that you would forgive me all my sins where I have done wrong, and graciously keep me this night.

For into Your hands I commend myself, my body and soul and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the wicked Foe may have no power over me.

Amen.

Belief Statement
We believe that God has a vision for the salvation of all people of all time.

We further believe that God, in His grace, has not abandoned His human creatures and the world to this brokenness, but has a renewed vision of perfection, restoration, and redemption for it. Therefore, Jesus calls us to follow His ministry model and work with Him in ministry and mission in our community toward the restoration of the wholeness of God’s world and mankind. This restoration will not be complete until the Second Coming of Jesus.

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him may not perish but may have eternal life.”

Matthew 29: 19-20 “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

I Corinthians 12:26-27 “If one member suffers, all suffer together with it; if one member is honored, all rejoice together with it. Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.”

Matthew 25:40 “…Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.”

Romans 3:23-25 “Since all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God; they are now justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a sacrifice of atonement by His blood, and effective through faith.”

The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod - Belief & Practice
Overview

With the universal Christian Church, The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod teaches and responds to the love of the Triune God: the Father, creator of all that exists; Jesus Christ, the Son, who became human to suffer and die for the sins of all human beings and to rise to life again in the ultimate victory over death and Satan; and the Holy Spirit, who creates faith through God's Word and Sacraments. The three persons of the Trinity are coequal and coeternal, one God.

Being "Lutheran," our congregations accept and teach Bible-based teachings of Martin Luther that inspired the reformation of the Christian Church in the 16th century. The teaching of Luther and the reformers can be summarized in three short phrases: Grace alone, Faith alone, Scripture alone.

Grace alone
God loves the people of the world, even though they are sinful, rebel against Him and do not deserve His love. He sent Jesus, His Son, to love the unlovable and save the ungodly.

Faith alone
By His suffering and death as the substitute for all people of all time, Jesus purchased and won forgiveness and eternal life for them. Those who hear this Good News and believe it have the eternal life that it offers. God creates faith in Christ and gives people forgiveness through Him.

Scripture alone
The Bible is God's inerrant and infallible Word, in which He reveals His Law and His Gospel of salvation in Jesus Christ. It is the sole rule and norm for Christian doctrine.

Who is Jesus?
For more than 2,000 years people have asked the question, "Who is Jesus?". We were not present when Jesus lived on this earth, but in the Bible we have the record of his birth, life, death on the cross, and resurrection. Study of the Bible, God's Word, will enable you to seek out the answer to this age-old question.

What does "Synod" mean?
The word "Synod" in The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod comes from Greek words that mean "walking together." The term has rich meaning in our church body, because congregations voluntarily choose to belong to the Synod. Though diverse in their service, these congregations hold to a shared confession of Jesus Christ as taught in Holy Scripture and the Lutheran Confessions which they believe are a correct interpretation and presentation of Biblical doctrine.

Contained in The Book of Concord: The Confessions of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, these statements of belief were put into writing by church leaders during the 16th century. The simplest of these is Luther's Small Catechism. The Augsburg Confession gives more detail on what Lutherans believe.

Read an article from the May 2004 Lutheran Witness about what a "Synod" is.
