Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church
Preaching, Teaching, and Reaching Out Since 1939
Who We Are
Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church, affectionately referred to by members as OSELC, was founded in 1939 as a bible study group led by Pastor Henry Sheperle. In the early days of Our Savior the bible studies were held in the homes of various members and eventually began to meet in an old storefront not far from where the church is currently located. Only a few short years later, and after WWII, Our Savior acquired its current location and has been located there ever since.

Having been intially founded as a "negro-mission", Our Savior is credited as being the first predominately African-American Lutheran church in the Indianapolis area to target the African American demographic of that time to bring them the good news of Jesus Christ. Since that time, Our Savior has evolved into a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural congregation whose primary mission is to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all people and inspire within them the hope that we have through our salvation in Jesus Christ.

Our Savior has a rich history and is known for the welcoming and warm atmosphere that is experienced during time spent at the church. After over 70 years, Our Savior is more dedicated than ever to preaching, teaching, and reaching out.
