USS Iowa Drawings

Welcome to the William Dexter Drawings Gallery

These are pictures that were drawn by William Dexter, while stationed on the USS Iowa in 1945. The drawings are both a humorous view of a sailor’s life, as well as amazingly detailed renderings of the ship itself. Some of his work even appeared in the ships newsletter, with a cartoon strip, called Walt the Salt.

Bill Dexter pursued a mechanical engineering career after the short stay in the Navy. His drawing ability and mechanical knowhow made him a natural, and leading expert in his field. He married Lois Liscum, his favorite drawing subject.

Bill Dexter passed away in 1996, survived by his wife, daugthers Gail and Linda and son Robert.

Questions or comments can be sent to Robert Dexter at rdexter@integrity.com.

These drawings are for private use only. Thank you to lutheransonline.com for hosting this web site. Simply click on the drawing to see a larger version. Please enjoy.
