Adoption Support Group serving Defiance, Henry, Fulton, Williams and surrounding counties of Northwest Ohio. This group is open to pre and post adoptive families, social workers and adult adoptees
OUR MISSION STATEMENT
To support, adovcate, educate and celebrate families built by domestic or international adoption.
Ways We Support
Forever Familes of Northwest Ohio is an adoption support group started in the mid 1990's as an offshoot of Rainbow Families, Toledo, Oh. The group was organized to offer support through all stages of family life. It is for both domestic and international families and welcomes new members openly anytime. We support in a number of ways. We have support group meetings, playdates and Heritage Days Celebrations, including Lunar New Year. We publish an newsletter every other month, and have annual summer picnic and holiday parties.

We have found that the value of a support group is for both the children and the parents. Children benefit from knowing other children who are adopted. It can help them feel more comfortable about themselves and their own family. They can share feelings and concerns about being adopted about birth parents and cultural heritages. This can be especially helpful during preteen and teenage years.

Parents share first hand successes and problems encountered and relate easily to the advice and experience of those who have been there. Once children reach the age when they become more aware of the adoption issue, the support that groups can offer parents become even more important, according to the National Adoption Information Clearinghouse(NAIC)
