Baptism of Jesus
The Baptism of Jesus
January 13, 2008
Luke 3:15-17, 21-22 2:1-12 (NIRV)

The people were waiting. They were expecting something. They were all wondering in their hearts if John [the Baptist] might be the Christ.

John answered them all, "I baptize you with water. But One who is more powerful than I am will come, one whose sandal straps I'm not good enough to untie. The coming One will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. With pitchfork in hand, the straw will be tossed away from the threshing floor. The wheat will be gathered into the storeroom. But the husks will be burned up with fire that can't be put out."

The Baptism and Family Line of Jesus

When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized, too. And as Jesus was praying, heaven was opened. The Holy Spirit came down in the form of a dove. A voice came from heaven. It said, "You are my Child, and I love you. I am very pleased with you."

Morning Has Broken
Morning has broken like the first morning;
Blackbird has spoken like the first bird.
Praise for the singing! Praise for the morning!
Praise for them springing fresh from the Word!

Sweet the rain's new fall sun-lit from heaven,
Like the first dew-fall on the grass.
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden,
Sprung in completeness where His feet pass.

Mine is the sunlight! Mine is the morning
Born of the one light Eden saw play!
Praise with elation, praise every morning.
God's recreation of the new day!
