For 2nd Year, St. John’s Posts 2-Year GainsLast year, when Rev. Richard Zeile, the headmaster at St. John’s Lutheran School in Taylor, compared the upper grade students’ scores on the California Achievement Test (CAT)with the previous year, his eyes got wider. “I saw a pattern of students scoring not just one year ahead of their previous score, but in many cases several years ahead. The entire grades 5,6,7 and 8 averaged a two year gain.” And this did not include two students whose previous scores had been off the charts and for whom no grade equivalent change could be measured on the CAT.
This year, with scores from the CAT just in, the Headmaster is pleased to report similar gains. Grades 6,7 & 8, while not scoring as strongly overall as last year, registered a two year average gain in Science and Social Studies. It is time to share this with the community, the parish decided.
St. John's Lutheran School is located at the corner of Northline and Telegraph Roads, not far from the Detroit metropolitan Airport. We have a preschool program for 3 and 4 year olds, and a 60-pupil K-8 program. Currently the student-teacher ratio is 12-1, an excellent setting for effective instruction.
