Kabekona news

A quiet morning on Kabekona
We are at our summer cabin on beautiful Lake Kabekona in the north woods of Minnesota. We are enjoying good weather this week, much cooler than the past month, but not as good for swimming. We invite family and friends to join us and enjoy the peace and beauty of the lake and woodlands.

Family news

News of the family: Lots of new news from the Hermansons, starting with sons and grandchildren:
1. Mark's family: Peder continues his work as a massage therapist while going to college with his eye on a chiropractice degree. His eye is also on a young woman named Becky, whom he sees as often as possible when she is home from her studies Fort Collins, Colorado.
2. Eric's family: Shannon graduated from high school in May and will continue her education in child development at a college in Aurora. Janel transferred from Luther College in Iowa to the University of Nebraska in Kearney. She and Roger Baker will be married August 18 and move to Kearley, where Roger is attending the university. Tracy became formally engaged to John Posey in July and will move back to St. Louis to job hunt. No wedding date set yet for them.
3 Kurt's family: kurt and Debbie's esplosion of grandchildren fill their home and hearts. See some photos on or photo page. Kurt's work at Oklahoma Christian University has expanded to include managing nearby schools. Debbie is between jobs and wondering how she ever had time to work.
4. Karl and Paige will make a big move in August -- to Vermillion, South Dakota, where Karl is enrolled in a master's degree program in theater arts. It happens to be in the county where Renee's father's family lived, so we feel a special connection there.
5. Biggest news of the year is Rolf's engagement to a beautiful young woman and their marriage celebration August 11 in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. The marriage to Deana Rambo includes two wonderful children -- Tyler, 13, and Ryan, 10. The whole family will be there to help them celebrate, along with aunts, uncle and cousins, who be there to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Sheldon's sister Kathy and her husband, Ted.
FROM THE OLD FOLKS: Sheldon is feeling the effects of his leukemia, with less strength and energy than usual, but the cabin atmosphere, both nature and friends, helps both of us feel renewed. We give thanks each day for this place and for the blessings of faith, family and friends.

This week at Kabekona
Not too much going on these days, just visiting with friends and working on our own projects. Sheldon has begun the terrace on the side of the cabin and we hope our earth mover friend will get the driveway repaired soon. Sheldon preached at his home church Sunday so we spent the weekend at Mona's B&B again. Always a pleasure to be with her. We will help Kathy load her car and wish them well as they start a new life in Dallas.

News of Ted Rotto
Ted has been progressing very well. He is walking with a "half walker", speaks well and looks great. They will be leaving on Thursday for Dallas. His brother Kurt will drive him to the Minneapolis airport with Kathy following in their car packed with all their necessary goods. Kurt will drive that car to Dallas for them. Kristi has their house all ready for them to move in. Kathy sold the car and the boat and is still showing the cabin in hopes of making a last minute sale. She has been amazing , coping so well with all this. We pray for a safe and easy journey and continued progress as Ted keeps up his physical therapy under Kristi's supervision.
Birthdays!

Lots of birthdays this summer: Bryson and Elle are big one-year-olds. Brooke will be three. Quinn just turned seven and Ena will be two next week! The biggest one of all was Rolf's - can you believe he's 40!! We won't tell on Cindy!
P.S. I hope I got all the ages right. It's hard to keep track!
Projects

In the workshop
People have asked about Sheldon's projects for this year. So far he has installed lights along the stairs to the lake and hauled in a great pile of cement stones for terracing the area along the east side of the cabin and replacing the bottom ones going up to the parking lot. He also has been doing some chip carving to display at the annual meeting.
