1980:
Polo and Marta Garcia, independent missionaries, outreach ministry among migrant workers in camps around Woodburn, Oregon.
1992:
A small group of supoprters began meeting with the Garcias to find ways to support their ministry.A weekly gospel radio program was initiated, sponsored by the small group.
1998:
A convocation on Hispanic Ministries was held at Hope, Lutheran Church in Woodburn, Oregon. Plans were made to expand the work of Lutheran Hispanic Ministries.
ESL classes began at Trinity Lutheran Church in Portland.
Polo Garcia, Jr., with financial support from Lutheran Hispanic Ministries, began higher education with the goal of becoming a Lutheran Pastor.
1999:
ESL classes and Rainbow Roundup began at Ascension Lutheran Church, Portland/Gresham, Oregon
2000:
Work toward calling a full time Latino missionary was begun.
The Mission Statement was drafted, and a position description for the missionary was created.
2002:
Lutheran Hispani Ministries became a non-profit corporation.
2003:
Polo Garcia Jr. graduated from Concordia University with a Bachelor's Degree.
The name of the organization was changed to Lutheran Latino Ministries, Inc. and 501(c)(3) status was achieved.
Spanish language worship services began at Hope Lutheran Church, Woodburn, Oregon, with Miguel Luna officiating assisted by his wife, Marta.
Benjamin Duarte (radio producer and speaker) and Miguel Luna began Leadership Advancement Process classes with the goal of becoming certified for Word and Sacrament ministry, leading to ordination.
Miguel and Marta Luna attended the Hispanic Ministry Convention in Los Angeles where they met President and Mrs. Kieschnick and church leaders from all over the United States.
2004:
A bilingual Vacation Bible School was presented at Hope Lutheran Church in Woodburn by Trinity Lutheran Church, Mt. Angel. The school was staffed by volunteers from Trinity, Hope, and Memorial Lutheran Church, Vancouver, Washington. Average daily attendance was 69.
2005:
Miguel and Marta Luna are hired as Circuit Rider Missionaries. They will conduct services and do evangelistic outreach at four congregations: Trinity, Portland; Ascension, Gresham/Portland; Hope, Woodburn; Trinity, Mt. Angel.
A bilingual Bible School sponsored by Trinity, Mt. Angel was presented at Hope Lutheran in Woodburn, staffed by members of those congregations as well as Beautiful Savior, Portland, and Memorial Lutheran, Vancouver. Materials were purchased by a grant from Thrivent. Average daily attendance was 78.
Miguel Luna was licenced as a Deacon in the Lutheran Church- Missouri Synod on December 2. He continues studies preparing for his colloquy interview with the goal of becoming ordained as an LCMS Pastor.
2008 - Pr. Miguel Luna completes colloquy and is certified as a pastor in the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod.
Pr. Luna accepts a joint call from the four congregations he currently serves and is installed at Hope Lutheran Church, Woodburn, OR, on September 7, 2008.
